The Jewish rendering is Yahweh.
The english rendering is Jehovah.
He is the most high God.

Those letters are the four letters in the English alphabet the translators used to represent the word/letters written in old manuscripts that was seen to be as the name for the God of the book we call today the bible[old testament]. Most translators say that the name was two sacred to pronounce so just letters were used. I personally wonder how one would pronounce 4 consonants together without saying each by its name. However my view is just for me.

I am of the opinion that what others say in the name Jehovah and Yahweh
are likewise made up and accepted names that have been assigned and used by different groups. I wonder why it is so important to use a name for God, My God. I do not use one as a "NO".

My friend I have a God, a personal God and he is my father. I never did call my physical father by his first name, ever. My respect for him allowed me to call him Dad, and refer to him as my father. I have the same or a better relationship with My God so I need not know his first name or even his name at all. I just say He is My God and My Father.

Do have a great day and do enjoy this Yahoo Q&A

"YHWH or Yahweh is the tribal god of the Jews. The most evil character in all of fiction. A god who creates people with foreknowledge that they will roast in hell for eternity."

no offense, but the G-d of the jews does not do this. the god of the christians does. people need to stop blaming christianity's cruel doctrines on the jews. christianity and judaism have almost nothing in common. they are practically opposite religions. and its not our fault what they believe.

EDIT

"Yahweh is the Jewish name for God. The Jews who lived during Biblical times thought that it was unlawful (and, I think, a sin) to write the name of God. So, when they wanted to write "God," they would essentially omit the vowels."

hebrew omits the vowels in every word. ancient hebrews had no problem with writing the name of G-d, that quirk arose in later times.

YHVH are the Hebrew letters for God's name. There are no vowels in Hebrew; vowel sounds are represented by marks below and/or beside the syllables.

Jews have never pronounced the name because it would be like calling Queen Elizabeth "Lizzy." And because there are no vowels in Torah Hebrew, no one knows exactly how the name would be pronounced in Hebrew.

There are many others names for God that can be spoken such as Elohim, Adonai, Hashem, etc.

Yahweh.

Yahweh is the Jewish name for God. The Jews who lived during Biblical times thought that it was unlawful (and, I think, a sin) to write the name of God. So, when they wanted to write "God," they would essentially omit the vowels.
