I'd like to say it to a female friend.

Croation would be fine. I realize that Serbs and Croats don't want to admit that they have something in common, but Serbian and Croatian are the same language, by linguistic definitions.

There are small differences of accent and vocabulary with Croatian and Serbian, but saying 'I love you is the same in both languages....
And for the phrase you want..also it same for each gender....



VOLIM TE / VOLIM TEBE = I love you


Volim = I love (from the infinitive to love - voleti)
te / tebe = You (accusative)

who cares im croatian i can say it in that language not in serbian
