Canine and human anatomy and physiology are not that different... I would guess any mortician would be more than qualified to do this for you... call funeral homes and ask around. I highly doubt there are any specialized animal embalmers, taxidermists probably aren't qualified as they like to remove all of the internal organs rather than preserving them...

There is an extremely slim chance that you are going to find a mortician to "prepare" a pet. Obviously, while in mortuary school, we were trained to embalm humans, not animals. While some funeral homes offer burial or cremation of a pet, you are not going to find one that embalms them. I have been a funeral director for many years and have never even heard of anyone wanting a pet embalmed, if that is what you are actually are referencing. So the answer would unfortunately be no, the animal can be buried or cremated, but not embalmed.

A taxidermist will stuff an animal. I'm not sure if this is what you mean by "prepare a pet as they do for humans". I do not know of one in your area.

In Wichita, KS there is a lady who does all kinds of pet funerals and cremations and all that goes along with it. I'm sorry for what ever you are going thru...best wishes...

What part of Illinois?? If you go to Yahoo Yellow Pages, type in your city/state or zip and look under pet services, there might be cemetaries listed. There might be other services listed there too.
