It varies upon the length of time one is AWOL, and various other factors including their service record.. Punishment can range from a cussing out, loss of rank, loss of pay grade to time in prison followed by a dishonorable discharge.

Unless your daddy is named Bush. Then they appoint you president after drying all the cocaine out of your system.

Absent With Out Leave is similar to doing a No Call and No Show for any job in the civilian world. People that are awol get in in the brigg or mini prison.

Benefits stop and if that individual has a family with kids, then the dependents are S.O.L.

The family is humiliated and get kicked out from the military reservation and no one affiliated like emergency relief e.g. A.E.R.,Army Emergency Relief, will NOT help and have NO INCLINATION to ease the pain.

This is an example of how the US military are pricks, they call it justice. I call it REVENGE.

So tell your friend or whatever to go to Canada and never return. Their life is OVER.

Put them in the brig for a while (after capture), then give them a very ceremonious dishonorable discharge.

Not in every case. If somebody stays in hiding long enough (like that old guy they just found that defected to North Vietnam), they generally leave them alone...but they give up their American citizenship though...if they came back to America he would probably be put away, but at the same time we are not aggressively pursuing him.

We couldn't. Most politicians are draft dodgers of one form or another, and they would look like complete bigots if they made a big stink out of a defector (or AWOL person).

relies upon on how long the guy is AWOL. this is not any longer something greater that a verbal counseling, or it ought to consequence in a courtroom martial. Many variables are seen, the persons previous overall performance, the clarification they have been awol, the quite time they have been awol, and in the event that they back on there own.

You must be asking for a reason? Boyfriend hidings at your house???? AWOL, the sooner he turns himself in the better. After 30 days, he gets charged as a deserter. Then his life basically ends........... He gets caught, convicted, dishonorably discharged and sent to prison. When he gets out, he is damaged goods. No benefits, no VA, & job will hire him.

You are not generally cout-marsheled for simple AWOL. If you are gone for a long period of time It is considered Desertion and you can be court marsheled.
