I played the bass clarinet in high school and I loved it!
I think that you ought to test it out at marching practice and if you don't have problems breathing or feel like you'll pass out, then you should be fine.
If you don't have marching practice try this: go for a walk around the block with it a couple of times. Then you'll know if it's safe or not.
I did get light headed sometimes while I marched, but what you can do is stop playing, finger along, and keep going until you catch your breath.
Good luck, Hon. And thanks for picking such a cool instrument.
P.S. If you think the Bass is bad . . . try the contrabass sometime lol

I was in the marching band in highschool... Our Bass Clarinet player was about an inch taller than you, and she did not have a lot of problems with carrying the instrument.
In reality - they aren't all that heavy (although, heavier than clairnets), I think you will be fine. Test it out - if you have one at home. If you don't like it - you can always switch to clarinet and the notes are the same fingers and such...

That would be tough. A bass clarinet is a particularly awkward instrument to march with. I know this because I was a band director many years ago. I'm not going to lie- usually taller, lankier players have an easier time. BUT- I have seen someone of your stature march with one, so I know it could be done. You'll just have to practice, and get your routine down pat.

A bass clarinet is not a marching instrument. You would have to play clarinet or sax to march. You are small but you should still be able to play even if you have to sit on a stool. You go girl!

I think you should do it. Even if you can't "march" with it yet, you will keep growing. Besides, they might have a way to carry it (like sax straps). Shoot for the moon, you may hit a star.

I think you probably could, but shouldn't you also consider the bass drum or Sousaphone?
