I did try the Catholic Church, but couldn't get into it with all the Latin chanting, and incense burning.

Is there one that's a little more basic, but still Christian? (And not a cult.)

OMG, I feel so sorry for you. You have a serious concern, and about a dozen people here are picking on you for it. All non-Christian, by the way, who would've guessed. I think the way these individuals act is the best proof for Christianity in the world. You asked for our favorite Christian churches so here's mine...

Baptist churches are fairly fundamental... they are known for preaching about tithing too much.
Methodist churches are also pretty good... they don't dunk people when they are baptized, only sprinkle them with holy water, and I disagree with that, but not much else.

I'm sure there are more good ones, but be careful. I guess the first thing I would ask a new church is "what do you believe that is hard for other Christians to accept?" That way you can find out quickly what they really believe. Ask any church what they believe and you will always get the answer that they use the Bible to find truth, and nothing else.

Despite all of their differences, if they say that Jesus is Lord, that pretty much is good enough for me.

There is the Presbyterian church, which like a lot of older protestant churches is pretty much "Christianity lite" compared to the Catholic church. A lot less of the pomp and circumstance. You don't have to go to confession. You don't have to make a lot of life changes. There isn't pressure to go out and spread the word and convert other people. It's sort of an everyone is welcome church.

The downside with the Presbyterian church and I think a lot of the older protestant churches is that they've become pretty boring by today's standards. You might not be able to "get into" the services because most churches haven't changed much in 100 years.

So you might want to go for one of the more modern Christian churches. Try one out on a Sunday and see if it feels too "culty" or "brainwashy" to you. If not, then keep trying it and see if you like it. I think there are some modern Christian churches that try to appeal to people of today with modern music, videos, more relatable sermons, etc. Good luck.

First of all, look up the word cult in the dictionary. You will find that all churches are in fact cults.

Second of all, the way I found my church was by going in, sitting down and seeing if I could feel the spirit in the church. Many churches made feel uncomfortable. I guess you could say my church chose me!

I will not recommend any church though because I feel that if God is present and you can feel him there, it is the right church for you.

I suggest you take a vacation into the word of God with prayer. I would tell most people to start with The Gospel of John and Genesis. For you I say , go to a Christian book store, buy a Strong's concordance. And apply the process of elimination. Start with the book of Timothy. That book alone will eliminate many false Gospels. Any doctrine should be able to stand up to the word of God.

The Bible is where we should find our religion, not prove it. Be not polluted with the word of man.

You will be surprised things you have believed all your life are wrong, eliminate them and replace them with what is right,

You'll notice, I never said what is right or wrong, search for yourself/

After you are comfortable with Gods word and know your way around, then and only then choose a church.

Every one will tell you to go to theirs, but that's what they know. No church supersedes the Bible.

Any church that has an authority over the Bible is the wrong church.

May the Lord be a lamp unto your feet.

Most local community churches offer pretty much basic Bible-based Christian teaching. Cavalry Chapel is a great 'basic' Bible teaching church with up-beat worship and solid youth groups. Four-square is very similar, but may vary from church to church on Pentecostal flavor. The Assembly of God tend to be very Pentecostal and loud, but offer good bible teaching. Presbyterian, Methodists and Episcopalian vary from church to church, tend to be rather stiff and formal, and are more apt to interpret scripture loosely...some use it only as a basic guideline, and some do not believe the Bible is the Word of God. I attend a Four-square, but for someone in your situation, I recommend Calvary Chapel. They usually teach line by line as they go through the scripture. It's good stuff.
I forgot to mention Baptists...Bible Baptists...a bit more conservative, but very solid doctrine and good basic teaching. A good transition, especially if you like a more subdued service.

First pray about it sincerly. God, Jehova gave us a set of guidelines to go by call the Ten Commandments. These won't save you, because you are saved by grace and mercy, but just like the government, there are rules and regulations. There are other guidelines like no drunkard, liers, whores, etc. will enter into the kingdom, but only the rightgeous. Repent and be baptised being immirged in the water. The Ten Commandment also tells you to remember something. When you are told to remember something that means don't forget. Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. Six days shall you labor and do all you work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God. In it thou shall not do any work, etc. Man chose to workship traditionally, but God wrote a messege with His finger in STONE. The old mosaic laws died at the cross when Jesus was crusified. He died on good Friday, before the sun set they had Him buried; He rested in His grave during the Sabbath; and dawning toward the FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK, MARY MAGDALENE WENT TO THE TOMB TO ANNOINT HIS BODY BUT HE HAD ALREADY RISEN. He rose Saturday night when the sun set. If you read Genesis from the beginning, you will see that a real day began from even to even, not from morning to morning. That means when the sun set, it is the beginning of a new day. That is how He rose on the third day which is the first day of the week. Man start a new day at 12 midnight. Webester Dictionary: Saturday - the seventh day of the week.

In my opinion I think most churches are cults. They ask you to be a sheep(not think for yourself) and use fear to keep you abiding by the rules(tift 10% of your money and come every week and.......) I feel very close to God and do not need a church to feel that way. Unfortunately, I believe MOST people use church as a smoking mirror , so to speak,. -see how good I am. God , who knows ALL in our heart , does not expect worship nor does He/She expect you to do any thing other than what is true in your heart. Religions to me, who I believe am a very GOD loving person, do not speak the truth of GOD. They instill fear and doubt for what your own heart should feel to be true. I wish I could give you a good answer on a loving church, but the only one I heard of is perhaps a Unitarian church. I haven't been to one , but apparently they are more open to different ideas.

The Church of Frontal Lobotomy. God is the end result of a failed search for truth by a very shallow mind, provided that any search was made at all instead of swallowing the pile of delusional bilge that was spoon fed to you as a child

Landover Baptist Church, led by Deacon Fred is the church for me. You HAVE TO CHECK OUT THEIR WEBSITE. It is like no other.
FSM, led by Leader & Prophet Bobby Henderson is truly inspiring,.
My Christian Spiritual Advisor is the same one as Mrs. Laura Bush. Her name is Mrs. Betty Bowers and she ministers the Word of Christ in association with Deacon Fred, the same pastor I mentioned first in this msg. Betty Bowers website is the most Christian website I have ever found in America.
Good luck.

When I was a searcher, I had a hard time finding a good church, a radio pastor that agreed with any other pastor on important issues or one that made sense. I hung it all up. "Enough! I'll find out what God has to say about Himself, for Pete's sake!!!" So, I sat down and read the Bible for myself.

The Bible is unique to all books in that it truly spoke to me on a personal level. Though parts were difficult to comprehend, I persevered to read it cover to cover. By the end, I had discovered for myself why it is the greatest story ever told.

Friend, take take your time on finding a church. While waiting, read God's love letter to you. It's in the Bible and you will find it.

Best regards,

Tube Dude
