The staircase is inside so spray painting is impratical. It was painted an antique brushed gold.What paint would you recommend to restore.Thanks for any help.

I want to restore it to the gold color.Please let me know where to get the products to accomplish this.

1) sand off the flaking paint and roughen the entire surface. Get as much paint off as possible.

2) Apply a metal primer (A Tnemec series 66 thinned with MEK works well)

3) Apply a finish coat (A Tnemec series 73 in whatever color you want works well)

tape thing off and lay paper down and sand paper it then use

Sand all surfaces to rough it up a bit. Then prime with a good primer. That will give it a good bonding surface for the paint. And if it's a rod iron rail, I personally like gloss black oil base paint for rod iron because it gives it that rod iron look.

If its down to bare metal you'll have to re-prime the metal. The correct primer is determined by your top coat. (latex or oil base paint). Afterward brush your top coat over that. When that is dried sufficiently add another coat of clear coat, polyurethane, to prolong the life of your paint.
