You could get your training at a local flight school or go to a university and major in aviation. The local school will be cheaper, but you'll still need a college degree so plan for that too, it might take a lot longer. I personally cannot recommend Embry-Riddle. They are too expensive and you realy don't get much for all your effort and money. to graduate after four years with a commercial license is a ripoff. At least at UND I graduated with commercial ssingle/multi and CFI-CFI-I. Cost me about 40k less too.
Don't even think about paying for an ATP license. Get a job and let your eomployer pay for it when the time comes. It wil be years before its even a consideration. You really only need it to be a captain on an airliner, so when the time comes you'll get it free of charge. I built up all my time, rented an airplane and did the checkride to earm my ATP at about 1800 hours. Now I'm a first officer at a regional airline and I don't need an ATP for that. I wasted my money is what I'm saying.
Do a lot of research before you start. The right school will do wonders for you. When picking a school though, DO NOT simply go to the cheapest place. As much as I hate Riddle, I have to say that in most cases with flight training you get what you pay for. Go someplace that has a good reputation. Ask some pilots what they think the next time you fly. Usuallly they are more than happy to talk to people like you. Read reviews. You are looking at a considerable investment in time and money, so doing a lot of homework now is your best plan.

If you want to become a real pilot with the skills and the knowledge (which is the hardest part to get) check out Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fl. I am a flight instructor there and the resources and people are amazing. When you graduate you also have the option to join the military as a pilot.

First you need to find a place to learn, hopefully a place that has connnections, and has plenty of ways for pilots to work their ways to becoming an airline pilot.
I can tell you right off that embry riddle is not a suitable college for anybody but the rich. In order to get your ATP rating, it costs at least $250,000 at embry riddle, compared to $45,000 at northwestern michigan college. Same exact ratings.
NMC allows its students to become instructors directly after recieving their instructor rating, which means you get paid to rack up an additional 800-1000 hours. I guarantee you that Embry riddle will not do that for you.
NMC may be 50 times smaller, but they have almost 100% employment among their ATP pilots.

basically you need fourty hours flight time to get a private pilots license.you must take and pass a physical and written exam.the 40 hours are broken down into dual, solo, cross country etc and you must have a certain amount of hours in each area.i would contact your local fixed base operator at the local air port for detailed information.oh, you can also become a sport or recreational pilot with less air time but you cant have passengers with a recreational and you must fly a sport class plane with a sport license.i would go ahead and get a private myself.

Get the current AIM (Airman's Information Manual) and contact your local flight school--if you don't know if you have one go to the airport and ask for the FBO.
