No, because what if that person lost their ATM card and had no choice BUT to pay by check. That's happend to me a few times. If you are in such a hurry, allow more time to run your errands before you have to be somewhere.

At my local supermarket there are 2 types of express lanes. One is for 9 items or less and the other is 15 items or less, both accept cash, check, charge. So someone writing a check in either of these lanes do not annoy me.
What annoys me and get's me mad is when someone is in either of these express lanes and they have more than the number of items (more than 9 and more than 15). For some reason the idiots at the store I shop think that you can buy 9 or 15 different items and have multiples of each item. Let's say they are in the 9 items or less lane, they have 3 items but they have 9 of each item so that would be 27 items total but they sit there and argue that they only have 3 items. Those are the people that really and truly piss me off!
Thanks for your question and thanks for letting me vent!! :o)

The express lane is normally cash only. Additionally, if I saw someone taking 15 minutes to write a check, regardless or where, I'd get a little irritated. A person who takes 15 minutes to pay by check would probably take 14:50 paying by cash.
A moron is always a moron.

It's funny that you pointed that out. Yes it's very annoying, the whole point of it is to speed things up, nothing worser than slow customers on express lanes. But its much worse when people don't know its an express lane and they have like 20 or more items and then there is a dispute with the customer and the employee, wasting even more time. How frustrating.

Almost as mad as I get when someone ahead of me (in any lane) spends 20 minutes having the cashier unscan items because they don't have enough money and didn't pay attention to what they were picking up! It's not rocket science to keep an approximate running total in your head! 1 or 2 items over, OK... 20 or more... you shouldn't be shopping then!

Unless there's no one in front of me, I don't use the express lines -- they take longer than the regular lines! I don't get mad about the check writing thing, just annoyed. I think they're actually a bit amusing to watch, like an old episode of the Brady Bunch: horribly out of date, but still kinda funny.
It's called a check card, people!

Yes! They know they are going to the store to buy stuff. They could have the check filled out before they get in line(to the point of amount and signature). I was a cashier,I had one guy that took 10 minutes to fill out the check. The line was getting longer and longer.I thought someone was going to hit him.

I get annoyed when anyone takes to long for anything. I've been in places where the express lane is cash only and I love it.

No I don't get mad. It's express because of the number of purchased items not how you are going to pay for them.

hell yeah i get mad!!! for one thing if they knew from jump they we're going to use a check, they should have filled out the check as much as possible. like putting the name of the store on the check, the date, phone number, their signiture, what the check is being used for. then the only thing they would have to do is fill out is the amount. if people would do that, that would save a lot of time. but unfortunately we a lot of butt heads who don't do things like that before they leave home.
