My hair is too straight and oily (some people actually desire this quality and call it "soft and silky"...whatever) and I hate it. I want coarse matte hair that can hold a curl. I'm in the minority of black women with naturally straight hair-while other black women are trying to straighten their hair-I'm trying to give mine a bounce! I want big hair! Trust me, straight hair is boring and you don't want it! 40s/50s bouffant hairstyles, waves, curls and 70s afros are so much sexier. I even resorted to getting a perm- and even that doesn't work. The curl only comes out on humid days. So anyway, is there any hair treatment out there that can make my hair coarser and hold a curl better? Thanks

Try some textured hairstyles. They will give you some variety.

Suggestions:Wet sets, straw curls, braids, double strand twist, braid outs, or cornrows.

Products:
-Use products that are specifically used to add volume
Use a clarifying shampoo
-Don't overuse hair moisturizers
-Try a leave-in conditioner like Infusium, with a light oil like carrot or olive for moisture and shine.

I would also suggest not adding any chemical treatments even a perm. It will take out any natural texture you have in your hair. And, it doesn't work anyway as you have stated.

I would say go to a Black hairstylist and have her curl your hair with the rods! I have a cousin with the same issue! She just gets the curls put in and keeps it that way! But you have to come to grips with your hair texture! I have the "kinky look" but my hair is actually very soft and it's a hassle so i just keep it braided and loose the braids so i have more volume and i dye it every other month to keep my color bright and shiny! You might not want to damage your hair so much! I don't relax my hair i use a texturizer 6 months out of the year and i do very little to it! So be carefull go to a professional!

It needs more damage. I've had healthy shiny hair and couldn't do anything with it. I bleach my hair and my hair will stay set for 3 days. You could perm it again on huge rods just to damage it a lttle more, or bleach it then dye it black again.

get a white people perm.........on small rod...it will be an afro...and if you want normal curl use a curling iron and some mousse...the mousse will give it a courseness and hold you'll need
