Sure, the directions are on the box, but but the mac is hot, the butter has to melt, the milk is cold, the cheese is powder - at lot of stuff is going on here.

I like to throw the butter in first and melt it over the noodles and stir. Then I add the milk which heats up because the stove is still on low and stir. Last, I add the cheese powder and stir. Then, to kick it up a little bit I dash some cajun seasoning over it! Delicious. You must try it. Yum-yum!

Here's what I do - try it out. I have added a few things, but if you don't have them on hand, don't worry - stick with the original.

Pour the cooked mac in a strainer. While they are draining, put your butter in the bottom of the saucepan and put back on the burner at medium. Add some chopped green onions and a finely diced tomato. When that is just barely cooked, add a bit of chopped basil, oregano, salt, fresh ground black pepper, and a pinch of mint (yes - mint will add a great taste - we use it in italian cooking all the time!). Stir it up well and put the cooked noodles back in the saucepan, stirring until well blended. Add the milk - I like to use Table Cream (18%) - and mix. Add the cheese packet. Add some shredded cheese - your choice! Mix it all up until you have the desired sauce thickness. Remove from heat for 2 minutes. If it needs more liquid, add more milk, cream, or water in small amounts. If it is too liquid, keep stirring over the heat until the thickness is right.
Voila!

If you just want it plain, put the noodles in the strainer, melt the butter in the pan over medium heat, add the noodles and stir well. Add milk and mix well. Add cheese and mix well. Remove from heat and let sit 2 minutes (it will thicken during this time) and add more milk if needed.

Another nice change, regardless of which way you cook it, is to put the finished Mac and Cheese into a small casserole dish, sprinkle parmesan or mozzarella over it, and finish it under the broiler for 3 or 4 minutes. Au Gratin!

Okay? Good Luck!

Throw the butter into the hot pan with the mac for maximum melting. Add fluorescent cheese powder and a splash of milk. Does it not say this on the box?

While my pasta is in the colander, I add the butter to the hot pot so it can melt. Then I add the powdered cheese. Pour the noodles back on top, then add milk. Stir well, going all the way to the bottom. No lumps for me!

I usually add the butter letting it melt, then the cheese, (I also add some sliced cheese to it as well) then the milk.. I like to add a little more milk, then let it set on the burner for a min and it seems to get creamier.. YUUMMMM
