I think that we should teach all our children at least some form of self defence. most other countries do it, some countries wonder why others don't. For some, it's a case of nat'l pride! Even most in the animal Kingdom teaches their young to fight. It would advance the health effort to no end too. I feel it's a travisty to let our children out our doors each day without a clue as to how to defend themselves.Think of it! Every day in the news a child is abducted, and that's just the ones they decide to report. take for example carly brusha all saw the survelance tape. A classic martial arts scenario. Even if she knew some of the most basic of tecniques she could be alive today!!! Kids taken into public bathrooms, yea right!!! We should develope an American martial arts system with the M/A philosophy and all. But before I work out the bugs I want to know how you feel about the subject. I'm going to blog my ideas on my 360 page all input will be welcome

Well that's why we have to educate the children to watch out for these types of people, even if a child knows martial arts, but doesn't know how to use it properly, or hasn't paid attention to what is taught to them, then it won't be effective. and they have to use everything they can to get away from those people: biting, kicking, hitting, screaming , whatever it takes to get away or draw attention to themselves and whoever is trying to snatch them.

for example, in our class (we have a children's class that I help with.) wee practice such scenarios, our biggest guy (who weighs 280 lbs) as a scenario, grabbed one of the kids and told him "if you yell kid, I'll kill you, but because he was always told to do as an adult said and not anyone who was an immediate family member like his mother or father, he stayed quiet when he should've yelled struggled bit and did anything to draw attention to what was happening to him and he coulda been easily kidnapped.

that's why educating the children about this stuff is far more important then teaching them Martial Arts, but getting a child in a Martial Art is a great idea no matter the discipline, but there are people or families that don't believe that their child should take a martial art because their child could get hurt, or that they don't believe that martial arts could help their child.

With so many disciplines to choose from, it would be difficult to say which one's the best suited to teach when each of the Martial Arts are good to teach in some form or another.

while your idea has merit my friend there are a lot more things to consider.

when I have children ,I'll definitely teach them martial arts, and then maybe get them into a MA school to further their study to become a better martial artist.

I disagree.... These counries you speak of that has fighting implimented in their schools, has been doing this for years, some from the very beginning.......America hasn't. America is practically the only country that has a substaintial amount of violence within it's boarders for NO REASON!!! Any other country that has any killings going on within it's boarders are doing it for political reasons or war....over the years we have had the highest number of rapes, killings, beatings, gang related crimes, race related crimes, and horrible crimes committed against our women and children. Don't get me wrong, every country has their dirt, but ours outrank theirs by far.... these other countries you speak of, their children are taught with strict dicipline, parents in America go to jail for spanking their child. In these other countries do you see these kids cursing and disrespecting their elders??? No you don't, why??? Because their entire society attempt to function as a unit, Americans are divided. We kill eachother over our color, our ethnicity, and our status. We have no respect for eachother what so ever. How can a country founded and built by hate and cruelty ever have a sound united society??? I see your point, but all that would do is create more unnesscesary violence. You have to think of the kids that are out here raising themselves, growing up in violent areas, the ones that have horrible parents, and the ones that are already violent. As a parent, I take it upon MYSELF to raise my child the way I thnk he should go, and teach him self defense with strict dicipline. I agree that our children should learn self defense through Martial Arts, but implementing them in our public school systems is a bad idea. My son already has to fight his way through school without using martial arts and he's only 5! Lets not make it worse for our kids!

WTF?! "ninjashu" that's basically a dead art that is known for assassin, spy, and other skills in that range with very vague and little known history. I guess we should teach our kids how to make poison in chemistry class, how to slay animal with arrow in zoology class, and how to use math to build a nuke bomb.

Personally I think certain martial arts will be very good for kids. However it would need to be "non lethal" art such as judo since it's actually effective but not as dangerous as other that teach how to break bones or hit someone. Kendo or other sword art will be good since you can't walk around with them but in class you can have fun learning and use it in spar for real. Wrestling is also great for same reason as judo.

However sparring is EXTREMELY important. If there's no realistic live sparring/competition the students will get curious and start to pick fight to test the techniques.

Well, What if you teach martial arts to a kid that wants to hurt everybody, what abotu that? what about the fact that there will be a fight between 2 students and they both know martial arts? they will fight it out, and it will be a bloody battle? what about the fact that, a student who learned martial arts get arrested, and he doesnt want to go to jail? what will he do? fight back? what i am saying, is teaching wrong students martial arts can lead into chaos. thats all,. if they want to learn martial arts why dont they just go to a martial arts school?
