I mean I'm the only woman, and I would never have chosen to be in this situation but I'm the only one left to take over the family business--I'm not clueless about the work, I've worked for my Dad my whole life,,,but in the office. Now I'm expected to go to lots of meetings that are 100% men-except me. Are they snickering behind my back?

I think it depends. Some fields are good-old-boy networks and some aren't. I worked in an architectural office where there was only one woman registered architect. She was good, too, really knew her stuff. She was well-respected. But my sister-in-law is an electrical engineer and she can tell some horror stories about being one of the only women in her field.

You have the advantage since you will be taking over the business. You're the boss, you set the tone. At least you will be paid the same as a man in your position!

You are going to get the respect anyway, since it was your Families business, it may not be real at first, and you will have to prove yourself, after all, they probably are saying "Daddy's little girl" but prove them wrong, earn their respect, and show them yours, you are in the position that most women want to be, show those men up! Good Luck, your Father will be Proud of you.

Know that, unfortunately, you will probably always have to work a little bit harder to prove yourself.
