Okay, I've been taking citalopram to help with my anxiety for probably six weeks or so now. And last night I went to a party. Where I was exposed to people smoking pot, their exhalations and such. And I drank a fair bit .. I've heard you shouldn't drink on this drug .. But when I asked my doctor about alcohol she just said that one drink would feel like two, she didn't exactly warn me away from it. Also, I had a small piece of hash cake while there. And I know I probably shouldn't have while taking citalopram, but I was curious. And I just wanted to know if anyone knows if thats bad to mix with citalopram? I highly doubt I'll be exposed to hash cake and/or drugs again in a long time, but I just thought I'd check. I'm sure I'll drink again, but as far as I can tell that doesn't effect me much. I don't feel any different from normal. So .. Thanks.

the reason they don't want you to drink is celexa is an antidepressant that affects the serotonin levels in your brain, and alcohol is a depressant. sort of defeats the purpose. but a drink here or there won't really hurt much. pot is really bad for anxiety. can make it worse. so i'd avoid that altogether and let the celexa work.

Just from how you expressed yourself in your question I think you know that it is not a good idea to mix drugs. Alcohol with citalopram will increase the effect of the alcohol and you may feel effects the next day as well, in terms of increased anxiety and so on.

These sites have some information. Take care.

As long as you are OK.. it should be alright to do hash w/ the anti-depressant. I think its only alcohol that's on the label.
Marijuana didn't bother me at all while I was on anti-depressants, it did intensify the high.
