When people answer factual questions, they often add opinions, or stuff that are outside what you get from an encyclopedia.
So I don't think Yahoo Answers is redundant even for factual questions.
The great thing about Yahoo Answers is precisely that we can learn of interpretations other people make, extra bits of info they think relevant. We might not always agree, but it is a great place to learn.
Of course you also have to sort out the answers, but that's a small price to pay.

No it isn't. If you looked up the answers in an encyclopedia, you would get a correct answer and you would know it was correct. If you asks on here every lame brain in the world will answer and how do you know which is the right answer?
That's my next question.......when people ask for homework help on here and they get 25 answers and only 2 are the same, do they go with that answer or do they have to figure it out on their own anyway?

I too am often puzzled and amazed why some simple questions are posed when any search engine would give a complete answer. As for homework questions, no one should answer the idle little sods. It does them little good. Yet many adults, and I can only think it's because they're a bit dim themselves, rush to provide answers that any intelligent 10 year old should know!!

lol good question! i think that yes for factual questions it is. wikipedia in particular is definitly my favourite website and answers most factual questions i have without any problems.
what i like about yahoo answers though, is reading users opinions to open questions. besides the odd mouthing off of people and silly insults a few people give...i find people's opinions on the whole...interesting.

i do unlike substitute. I opened Yahoo solutions and observed precise off that my profile photograph replaced into huge, and that's no longer a foul element (so a approaches...) as i'm getting to (ultimately) see the full suitable outfit that I picked for my avatar. yet to my unhappiness (a minimum of i've got confidence...) i'm the only one that can see my "% up avatar"...LOL...i do no longer care...as long because of the fact the important stuff keeps to be the comparable. So what the !!!! did they alter...I nonetheless don't be responsive to... Why substitute something I say it worked did no longer it?....;-) If it ain't broke pass away it by myself, in no way have been greater true words written....

Yes! I don't understand why they don't do a search online for some of the questions they ask, especially homework questions. There's many legitimate sites that'll give them the answers quickly, and they'll more likely be the correct ones.

It's like...giving up 5 points, which have no value whatsoever anyway, to have a bunch of people type on their computer frantically, attempting to be chosen as best answer. if they are, they will get 10 worthless points. so...it's to your advantage to ask! boring people all over the world are at your service.

Yup. Except that you can't necessarily trust the encyclopedias, either. There is no substitution for cognition.

I often wonder why the people wont just google the question. I try to ask more subjective questions. I also try not to ask too many because i hate losing points.

Not always. Some people are asking for opinions. For example: your question is looking for opinions.
