It depends on how you drink the rum and whether or not you've had a full meal before you start drinking. On a full meal, it will take longer for the effect and it will decrease the effect slightly.
You can get a buzz, though, within about 20 to 30 minutes while drinking only one standard drink of rum (1 oz. 80 proof) and Pepsi in an 8 oz. glass without ice (the ice just throws off the ratio in the drink, so I suggest not using ice unless you have rum in an icy (slush) drink).
As for gettting drunk, it depends on what you mean by drunk. In most states, too drunk to drive is between .08 percent BAC and 1.0 percent, give or take a little. To get this far along, you need only about two drinks in one hour.
If you drink Bacardi 151 and Pepsi, be sure to use half the usual mix (1/2 oz. rum in an 8 oz. glass with Pepsi).
Also, I suggest (exhort) that you not drink for the purpose of getting drunk if this is your first time to drink. You either won't make it very far before you are miserable (puking your guts out and passing out between pukes) or dead.

Here's a chart for blood-alcohol content, by weight. .08 is considered intoxicated by the law in most states. By looking at this, you'd be legally drunk after 4 shots per hour.

If your body's never had alcohol before, it doesn't know that it's bad, so you should take it easy.

Two drinks (ounces) and you should feel something. More than that and you are asking for trouble. It's best to observe drunken people while you are sober to see what complete idiots they are and then vow not to be so stupid. Trust me on this one. Bring a bottle of soda and switch to it after two drinks. Claim it has boose in it if other people ask why you aren't drinking.

hey. you are 200 lbs of danger. getting drunk will only get you in serious trouble. look at the horrors it has caused people.people have died,been thrown in jail,divorced,rejected,fined,robbed,beaten and even some, before they sobered up went to hell. wanna take dumb chances like that? go ahead, we'll have a good laugh at your ignorance.

Why would you want to get drunk? Puking is no fun-nor is the hangover. But-if you are set on it, being your first time it won't take much at all.
