I was invited to a Rotary Club meeting, but most of the folks there were a lot more established that I am (ie, they earn more money). I earn a good living, but am still paying my student loans for another 2 1/2 years.

Community service is something I've always done and now I live in a new area, so want to start getting involved here. I have some time and a lot of energy and skill to share but can't really give a whole lot financially right now.

There's a Catholic church across the street from me. I haven't gone there yet--was raised Catholic and have decided to no longer be Catholic, b/c A) I was only going to Mass out of obligation, and B) I don't agree w/ some of the Church's views, and C) I'm not a good Catholic.

If you've read this far, should I start going to Mass in order to get involved w/ their service work?

Serving God through the church might actually help your faith.Catholics have loads of differnet community programs. I'd say get involved with St. Vincent De Paul Society, Knights of Columbus(for men), Guadalupanas (for females), CYO (sports for kids), etc. You will surround yourself with good people, make new friends, work for God, and possibly even build your faith.

Do you just want to get involved in some of the Catholic organizations as far as community service goes? You don't have to attend church to do that. (It might help, but you don't have to go).

I have a suggestion, ask about the St. Vincent DePaul Society. This is a group that does a lot of charity work for the needy in the parish. They get food, clothing, money, etc to those who need it.

If you don't like that, contact Catholic Charities. You can do that online and see which groups are supported by Catholic Charities. Then, check out the organizations. Offer your services if you are so inclined.

No, just get connected up with some disabled folks. They can always use some help with logistical things like transportation or moving stuff around. Some of it's really simple. Some people just want someone to take a walk with. Because it's hard to get out especially to new areas where they haven't been before, because they need to know they if can get back. It's nice to have someone who is able bodied to travel with until you know what the area is like. Believe me I know.
