I want lobster for my birthday next week and my husband is willing to get it and cook it-but would it be a comparable cost to have someone else make it in a restauraunt (like red lobster)?

Most definitely, let him prepare a whole Maine Lobster, at home, for you ... succulant .. with drawn butter and maybe some of those Cheese bisquits (I'll even share how to make them).

I am not even sure that Red Lobster offers a whole Maine lobster ..

lobster in the store $9.99 if you are in VA, and a Red Lobster or such restraunt about $25.00 or more for the dinner

This was my mother's day dinner

start your vegies

Live Lobster
Boil your water, you can add some salt to the water. IN Large Pot
Put live lobster into pot
15 min or so until it is red, not that long
take lobster out, put on plate,
melt butter in microwave
eat

happy birthday

Buy fresh or frozen lobster tails, and broil at home.

Much cheaper.

I have broiled lobster tails and home, and it isn't difficult at all. Cut open the shell, extract the meat, place the meat securely in the slit in the shell (so it doesn't curl up), broil til opaque - firm, solid white, not translucent.

Serve with lemon/garlic butter and baked potatoes and a tossed salad.

Your husband sounds like a sweetheart!

Happy birthday! :-))

you'll get your money's worth if you have it at home. my husband does it all the time, and we can even afford to share with friends. at a restaurant you can pay more than $30 per lobster and many times they're tiny, overcooked and tasteless.
one good tip is to find a chinese fish market. they usually have much better prices and it is fresh.
AND you can make the biggest mess without a care in the world.
enjoy!

It's much cheaper to buy it and cook it at home, there's nothing better than home cooked food, and you save on gas to get there, tip, drinks etc. If your lucky he'll even do the cleanup since it's your birthday.

Restaraunt. A lobster is expensive, hard to prepare, and you gotta do the dishes!

Myself, I would rather go out, that way you get the sides and desert, and no mess to clean up. Plus time to share the moment together!! The cost should,nt be that much different, and you will most likely enjoy it more too!!!!

Remember..... Restauruants need to make a profit... so whilst the food might be served a tad better... it will cost you a small fortune...

Miught be more enjoyable at home....

ENJOY!!!

It would be cheaper for you to make at home, however it's your b-day you should go out and not have to deal w/ all the mess.

if your husband is willing to do this for you, forget about the cost. if he cares enough to offer, accept his labor of love.
