Think about it, no religions means less demagogues to mislead and cause turmoil and hatred amongst the populations! More money going INTO the economies instead of hidden away in coffers and hidden bank accounts for the mere enrichment of those that use superstitious nonsense to herd people... those funds could probably be used for the intended purposes of feeding the hungry, helping the poor, buying the needed medications for the treatable diseases, illnesses and sicknesses and better care for the disabled and elderly and poor but are now being ignored while the religious leaders sit comfortably in their huge homes/mansion, dining in their finest, enjoying obscene and undeserved wealth!

I'm a Humanist, and I'd have to say the statement is false. I believe religion can inspire great acts of courage, self-sacrifice, and generosity. I've seen this first-hand. Unfortunately, it has also inspired horrific acts of inhumanity. Blind faith and ignorance, which attach themselves to religion, are serious and unnecessary burdens to humanity, and the world would (and will) be better without them--but to say that religion is the root of all evil and humankind's only weakness would be false.

This doesn't mean that peace is impossible. It just means that there's no easy solution for the problems we've created for ourselves. It's going to take a lot of work and sacrifice to make things better.

Humans are not peaceful by nature, even the most God-hating atheist can offer that observation. Look at all the wars of the 20th century......were any of those holy wars? No. They were caused by the never ending battle against tyrrany.

In contrast, God is the only way we are mandated to be good.

False. People go to war over things far removed from religion. But I would grant that there would be far fewer wars in history if the religiously based ones hadn't happened.

Let's think about that. How does religion influence a rapist? How does religion influence greed? How does religion influence child molesters? Do you think these things come from religion, or would you consider these things to be peaceful?

Many wars and conflicts originate from religious differences, but not all violent acts.

Hmmm... If I was not religious then I would not even follow laws that I feel are unjust...

And perhaps there would be no laws, why would we protect the innocent or those who cannot protect themselves when we currently get those values from scriptures...

I think it would be pretty much the survival of the strongest...

or... survival of the ones that are willing to do ANYTHING to survive...

Those who wanted power would take it by force without being mellowed by any religion to keep them from torturing and maiming the enemies.

I think it's a load of Rubbish. Religion is all about love and peace. How can a world without it have piece. It is just the believers who get it wrong and start theese rediculas wars on religion.

A world without people might be considered a world at peace.

But than there's lots of slaughter/natural disasters in the wilds of the animal kingdom too.

Maybe existence is supposed to be visceral and messy.

you still got greed pal. not to mention the innate human instinct to destroy one another and steal ones land. there is nothing profound about that statement. a world without religion is a world a little more peaceful might be more accurate.

It's nonsense, because you have no way of knowing what a world without religion would be like. Maybe it would be more peaceful than what we have now, or maybe not.
