let them work it out cause they dont like them to begin with cause they think you are trying to replace them.

Introduce them with short visits. Keep them separated the rest of the time. What I mean by this is that you need to put them in a room together for about 5 minutes, make sure it is supervised. If everything is fine keep them together until they start fighting. Try again aboout 30-60 minutes later. Once they can handle the five minute intervals increase it. Eventually they will be fine to be left together. Another way is putting the dog in one of those pet kennels that are made of wire, let the cat sniff around. When the cat seems to relax more let them spend time like I mentioned above. The biggest issue why the cat doesn't like the dog is it is a territory issue. Your cat is feeling like the dog is trying to take its territory. You need to make sure that your cat doesn't feel displaced or else you will then start facing behavioral problems, such as marking behavior.

Chihuahua right??? Let the cat wack the thing around a little and it will all be fine, going through the same thing with my puppie and two cats. Luckily my cats are still young enough (about a year an a half old) that they still get a kick out of chasing the thing around. One of my cats, my spoiled little girl HATES the dog, she gave the dog a good swipe across the nose and now the dog doesn't bother her. My little boy kitty loves to chase "that thing" (the way he looks at the dog is like "what the hell is that rat thing you brought home?) around the yard, they just run circles for what seems like hours on end. Your cat will get over it, she'll just stay up high for a while.

Time... that is all they need. Trust me I have 4 cats and 2 dogs I had 3 of the cats before I got a dog and it took quite a while for the cats to adjust to the dog but eventually they did, however I will tell you that if you get the cat first, they will never truly like the dog, they will ignore or tolerate the dog and maybe rarely show it some attention, but if you get a cat after you already have the dog they will like eachother more. All you need to do is give the cat some time to adjust and remember to treat both with equal affection and do not punish either one for thier behaviour towards one another, make thier interactions pleasant by praising and giving treats to both of them it will make them adapt easier and will help to stem any jealousy they may have for one another if you treat them equal.

Give the cat a little time to get used to the new pet, and give him a lot of extra attention so he won't feel he's being kicked out. There might be a little hissing and spatting at first, but unless the dog is a problem chances are good it won't go beyond that.

I just got a new puppy and my cat pretty much stays downstairs all day but he is getting used to my puppy. My Cousins have a cat and when they got a new puppy there cat hid in the basement for weeks but now he is okay with the new puppy. Your cat will eventually learn that your dog is here to stay and get to like him.

You might not be able to work this out.
Have you brought in a new pet without first seeing if your cat will react well?
If so, you may have to keep them separate.
They may get over the dislike but be prepared if they don't.
It is much harder to rehome and cat than a new puppy.

They will get used to each other fairly quickly--just make sure the cat has places it can go or jump up to in order to escape the dog if it wants to
