Such a faith would make little sense to me.
Why should I be saved? Do I deserve?
Does anyone REALLY know their fate? Of course not.
I am a Christian because of the benefits it has on my mind, my soul, and my life. NOT because of what may (or may not) happen when I die.

This is not a bad question to ask, Julia, because it points to the different ways people look at salvation and what salvation means to them.
The problem is though, that there are different understandings of salvation among Christians. For some, salvation means escape from a form of tribulation at the end of the world. In this manner, for some people, salvation is a fear-driven response to some scary interpretations of End Time prophecy or the fear of a vengeful God.
For others, salvation is the assurance of an afterlife. And for some, it means the end of suffering in this present world. In the early times of Christianity, it often meant relief from oppressive political systems, and was envisioned more as a collective, group salvation rather than individual salvation, as modern Christians tend to believe.
No matter how you decide what "salvation" means though, it does entail the relief or liberation from pain and suffering. This is not so much a selfish act, but a natural choice people make for themselves and hope others will choose.
But perhaps you are seeing it more as an undeserved reward that people are going after? It is true that throughout history, people have envisioned the idea of heaven in different ways, as a means of helping them cope with the harsh realities of this world below.
For many who lived lives of poverty, heaven meant a place where there was always plenty to eat. For those who were grieving, heaven meant a place where there was no more separation. In fact, the Bible speaks very little of the afterlife. It is human imagination that fills in these gaps.
I am not sure why you believe that selfish people will not be saved. From a Christian perspective, all of us are mired in selfishness, greed and self-centeredness, though we struggle our lifetimes to overcome these things.
It is interesting that you ask about other reasons to be Christian. Did you know that there are "Christian atheists"? For some people, the teachings of Jesus make a big enough impact that for them, it is enough just to follow the basic tenets of what Jesus taught, even though they cannot go so far as to believe in God. So, yes, there are many other reasons to follow Christianity without addressing the doctrine of salvation, and you will find that there are a number of the more liberal Protestant denominations that do not place much emphasis on teaching salvation and focus rather on other doctrines for greater emphasis.

I am saved because I believe. I believe because I have read the scriptures and studied the religions of others and found this is the one for me. You do not have to believe, and I am content to let you have your own opinion without mocking it. I just wish people who did not believe would be a little more tolerant of those who do believe. Not all of us are Bible thumping nutcases. Some of us are quite intelligent and would debate our issues with atheist in the proper forum. But Atheist usually just bash instead of debate. How about asking a question that isn't quite so harsh?

Hello,
You can get Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars for free from this link: http://j.mp/1p0Df7W
The storyline is set in the year 2047, and it continues the events of the previous game in which GDI shot the ion cannon in order to destroy Temple Prime where Kane, the main antagonist, and his followers were.
It's the best game.

I don't understand why a person is selfish for wanting to be saved. I want all people to be saved,to know the love of God.
Read the gospel of Mark. My question to you is this if you met tomorrow a person just like Jesus would you not want to spend the rest of your life with him?
I'm not gonna say bad words to you or give you a hard time all I'm saying is give him a chance.

As a Christian Saved by the cross i can HONESTLY say that if you are truly living by spirit and light you want to earn your salvation by reaching out to others in the dark.
What good would come of hiding your light under a basket? All TRULY SAVED christians in the WALK and not just TALK would totally get this.
Todays problem with christians is that they can stray from their walk and just sit and talk! AMEN.

I didn't have a choice, since God revealed himself and showed me there is another world where we all go to eventually, when inside coma as a child and once seen and felt, never forgotten, I assure you!
He went on to reveal himself again and again in my 61 years through Christ and through many more miraculous events like that first NDE... in saving my life across many more years of accidents, violence at the hands of others, and illnesses which according to specialists, I should have died from many times.
I've been blessed to have a one to one relationship with God through Jesus, without any church, without indoctrination of any religion... and had these things not happened to me, had God not shown me this Himself, I too would be the an atheist... and the worlds most ardent and outspoken one at that.
It's a personal journey, and you can't put other peoples faith on trial or demand proof, any more than I can put your disbelief on trial... because it is always a private relationship for all of us between ourselves and our creator. Just as your relationship with your mum and dad is private and personal to you! Think about it!
It is designed to fit around your needs, your growth inwardly, and when God decides your ready to communicate with, whatever age you are, then and only then, is it time for you to know... if you aint grown to be open enough yet to see the whole picture, well then, I guess you just aint ready.
He's waiting around all the time for when you are though... since He belongs to all, whatever colour, race or creed... whatever religion we follow, there is only one God, whatever name you give Him.
It will happen for you, even if you're 101 years old... I guarantee you will get there one day. It took my dad until his last week on the planet, after a lifetime of outspoken atheism! And it was so sudden when it came to him and I never thought his stubborn and supicious mind, would ever change!

For years I have searched for the answer and I believe my persistence has won at last. You need truly to seek the answer for the right reason - I went to Bible Study classes which opened my eyes and all I can pass on is what St Paul said "Faith is folly to the man whose eyes have not first been opened by the grace of God".

I believe in Christianity because the facts support it. Getting saved is a result of believing not my motivation for believing.

Julia are you as much of a meanie as you seem on here?
I believe in Christ because it is the truth and I was commanded to do so. Even before I knew I was truly, everlastingly saved (I thought I'd done something punishable by hell... until I understood God's absolute forgiveness) I still worshipped Christ.
