Depends.

How many square feet? Will it be in a big mall or in the back of your home?

Utilities: depends on how much power you use and how many hours you're open

Phone: about $30+

Supplies: depends on the number of dogs you do

How about:
- insurance
- accoutant
- taxes & filing fees
- maintenance
- advertising / promotion
- any hired helpers
- interest on any loans or financing
- credit card machine & transaction fees
- banking fees, checks, etc

Overall it could be <$1000 a month for a tiny thing out of the back of your home, but more likely you'll have several thousand dollars a month in expenses.

Also, you have to have about 6 months living expenses in the bank. It'll take that long before you can expect to come close to money coming in paying most of your bills.

That is like asking how much does it cost to go to the moon. There are a myriad of variables involved. What does the goods cost to do the grooming, what kind of place, how big and what part of town do you want to be, commercial or residential, etc. Check your local paper for places to rent as you will be able to see what the rentals will cost that way. Check with a supply house that you can get supplies at cost such as your clippers, combs brushes, and whatever else kind of equipment you will want to have. There are thousands of different things you can get that you can sell, dryers for pets, washing facilities, benches, etc. Need to decide what all you want to sell as accessories and have a place for that. What all you will need is really up to you as to how big you want to start and how much money you have to spend and the cost will depend on how many good deals you can get, etc. You can start at the bare basics and get by with a few hundred dollars for a place and the bare things you need with no frills. You could start out of your house if you have a place suitable and that way will save on rent and utilities. Need to check with the City on that one to see if it is legal for you to do that. Hope this has helped some. Only YOU can really decide what the cost really will be and what you will need to get it going. Go to a groomer that is in business now and ask them for some advice on what you would need to get going, just bare bones needs with no frills.

Check with your county, or chamber of commerce to see if your local government has a Small Business Association. You can find out all kinds of info for free, including seminars. They may be able to help you get a business plan together. Good luck to you.
