What you have to do is set it to boot from the CD instead of the hard drive which it is still doing. How you do that varies from model to model on a laptop. Sometimes you press F1 during boot, F2, F10, F12, Esc, Control Alt Esc. AS I say it just depends. Try combinations of these just as the laptop boots. Sometimes it will give you a hint as it boots a message like "Hit DEL to enter setup" Then go in and look for boot options. Set it to boot from the CD First and the hard drive second.

You have to go in to the BIOS setup and make sure that the boot order is CD first, then floppy (if you have one), then hard drive.

Check your manual, but it's usually done by pressing F1 or ESC as the computer boots.

Restart and then your Windows disk will boot into setup.

Oh yeah, ignore all the above if you didn't start the computer wiht the disk already in it.

Try booting with the CD in the drive. If that does not work check your bios setup to be sure your CD drive is set as the first boot device

What you and the others describe should work. Is it possible that you have a non-working CD drive? It may also be possible that whatever preinstalled minimal software that gives you the C prompt does not have a CD-ROM driver.

as well out of your USB CD/DVD, the BIOS settings on your pc should be configured to attempt this. On start up keep tapping both F1, F2, F10,(word that some manufacturers use F10 for equipment fix!) Esc, or Del, to enter the BIOS set-up. search for "force configuration", "Boot order" or similar and make the USB CD/DVD force the first boot gadget and the demanding force the second one. keep settings and go out. Insert the CD/DVD into your CD/DVD force, and then restart your pc. once you spot the "Press any key as well from CD" message, press a key to commence the pc from the CD/DVD. stick with the learning on the demonstrate to go with and format (NTFS) a partition the position you opt to position in homestead windows. stick with the learning on the demonstrate to finish the homestead windows Setup.
