Your laptop uses too much power for solar cells to be cost effective. Sure they can charge the battery but youre probably looking at days of charging for 30 minutes use of laptop.

Typical solar cell 12V, 200mA (milli amps) quite big and expensive. Have a look at the solar pannels sold by maplin.

I'm not sure, but I just say an article in "Red Herring" which included some newer solar power items and the prices. There's backpacks with solar panels in them for about $200 before tax and shipping costs that are supposed to charge laptop and Ipod batteries with 4 hours of sun.

You'd need the equivalent of about 13 volts DC as well.
It will have to be fed through another set of batteries from the solar cells since you wouldn't effectively be able to recharge the on-board battery and operate it at the same time very well. Besides, the external batteries would allow you to still operate, at night or when it's raining, with sufficient stored power.
