My dogs hind legs seem to be hurting. She is 8 years old. Very healthy & vibrant. No injury known. She's eating her food but has stopped begging which is VERY unusual behavior. She cries when picked up but I can't seem to locate an injury. My vet can't see her for 2 days. Should I let her rest or take her to emergency care? Can this be anything more serious than muscle ache? I'm very worried.

Find a new vet... any good vet should be able to make time for emergencies during business hours... if they care about their patients anyway. Find one who will take the time and care you and your dog deserve. After-hours is one thing, but saying you have to wait 2-3 days is ridiculous in my opinion. I wouldn't, in my judgement, ever say no to a possible emergency when the next dog scheduled is an annual check up or a puppy getting his shots.

Take her somewhere that can see her ASAP if it has been a few days, changing in eating behavior (not begging) is a bad sign, along with the obvious pain... It's a tough call whether to take her to an emergency clinic or find somewhere in the morning... it could be any number of things... but yes, it is almost definitely more serious than a muscle ache. And I would not recommend waiting two days either. Whatever you do, find a new vet, yours is not being responsible.

I just called a fellow student, you should get her to an emergency clinic... those symptoms can easily be signs of a major back/spinal injury, especially if it is effecting both legs. It could also be a pinched nerve or something not as serious, but when the risk of late treatment is paralysis... it's best to spend the $50-100 and have peace of mind.

And you didn't call back the vet who treated her in the first place immediately....!!! The minute she started any of the symptoms you mention she should have gone back to the vet. Not wait a week. Everyone is quick to beat up the veterinarian here, but the damages done and the fact that they kept her for two days tells me a lot. If she needed surgery they would have told you that. As for her body being squishy, she is obviously not moving and the body fluids and blood is accumulating on one side. Don't know what to do!!! VET. Same one.

Don't know what breed your dog is, large or small,. so this could be serious. However not knowing where you live, I promise you if my vet couldn't see my baby immediately I would be changing vet immediately. These are our babies and I for one demand that my Vet treats mine as if they are the most important dogs alive. A dog 8 years old could have a pulled muscle or the beginning of arthritis Take him somewhere, hes hurting and that is not funny

Depending on the size of your dog big dogs can get hip dysplasia. Also, it could be the cruciate ligament in the knee. If your dog stops eating I would definately go to the emergency clinic. They will probably have your pet follow up with your regular vet anyway, so keep that appointment still.

It really depends on the breed but if its a larger dog it may be a sign of hip displaisure or form of arthritus if it is really bothering you take to another vet or make an emergency call to your vet it may cost 60-80 dollars for them to come in but its your dog expect to pay some big cash for x-rays etc.

If you are very concerned, there are emergency vets all over the place, who will treat dogs after the regular vets are closed. Do call one of them in yr area to find out how much, and what u need to bring. I know to bring as much information as u can regarding the dog's health.

Good Luck!

Take her to another vet. I would take her in tomorrow. Just walk in without an appointment. If your dog is sick, a good vet will see you without an appointment. Could be arthritis, maybe a back injury. Hope she feels better soon.

It may be a torn ACL which is a ligament in the knee - my Boxer had one and it looked very much like hip problems - if that's the case it can wait - but if there's any change, I would get to the ER - if you know how to take her temperature, try to do so - that's a good indicator of illness.

Surely there must be another vet you can see???

And yes, if you are worried, get to a vet emergency room - far better for you and the dog.

I would take her to the ER. It is always better to be safe than sorry. If you cant locate and external injury, the cause may be internal and if not treated promptly could cause further issues at best.
