Well, let's face it,all alcohol has a bad press generaly speaking especially when it results in severe illness (the liver) violence (very common) and financial ruin.Vodka though? In Russia it is seen as a national problem but that is likely because it is the national drink and cheap. We saw the same thing in this country once with Gin,sometimes known as Mother's Ruin and you probably remember from reading Oliver Twist that quite young children were given it Remember Fagin saying "Drink your gin and shut up" That problem here was sorted out by regulating the licensing laws(now repealed) and taxing the stuff. So it is not just Vodka Just that the fashion changes.

My forte this question....it is one of only 2 types of alcohol which can cause hallucinatory effects vodka and white cider. Drink too much too often and you'll find yourself in a paranoid state and likely to have some hallucinations. Leave it alone and stick to wine or beer.

I don't think Vodka is stigmatised at all. I would have said lager would have a bigger stigmatisation than anything else. One brand of lager is even known in UK slang as 'Wife Beater'
