Does philosophy matter when you're trying to make a living?

2006-09-09 08:17:51 · update #1

1 day left for answers. None have helped. I've done the minivan thing, I only found further alienation. I've worked and tried to apply myself to material things...even more desperation.

Does it matter in your life if you feel spirituality is leading you away from money, ambition, competition, and the "rat race." Or is this just the excuse of a loser.

I am the Seeker of truth. I live each day within the principles of the Occultist. As far as organizing the life around the journey, this is considerably more difficult. Being willing to leave the safety of knowing for understanding what is not yet known is not easy. Its dangerous and full of surprises.

The following books explain the primary understanding of how I plan my life around the journey. To speak it within a paragraph does it no justice.

The Alchemist
The Dream Giver
The Four Agreements
The Celestine Prophecy

These I recommend and hope you find your answer within.

Hails to the truth,
Silence

Yes. My journey is my life. There is no organising to it. Everyday I seek new answers and new possibilities and when an answer comes, I apply it to my life. That leaves room for me to seek more answers, which of course always raises even more questions.

Re: your update (9/10) - True philosophy does not earn you a living unless you become a philosophy professor or write philosophical books. However, a personal philosophy can steer someone in the right direction to the career they most desire in order to earn an income.

Seeking is who you are, not a separate entity that is to be dealt with only during your moments of boredom or confusion. Seeking is different for everyone because we all have our own ideas of what we need answers to and they are not always spiritual in nature.

The Lord said seek and ye shall find. I try to live by these words and not be led around like a lost soul by some zealot who thinks he is the only one who has the answers..Remember, the kingdom of God is not in mansions of wood or stone. It is all around you and inside of you and if you keep an open mind and go through life with your vision doing a 360 degree scan of what goes on around you and in your life , you will see that the answers that we all seek are right within our line of sight. We just have to be open to them..I firmly believe that this is our Creator in all his beauty and glory talking to us.. Seeker for 49 years and still learning wonderful things about life and our cosmic connections...Peace and Love , Stef..

Yes I guess I am a seeker. At any rate I try to live my life including my work so that it fits with my purpose in life as I understand it. It's taken a long time to get where I am. My work allows me to be creative, help people and mentor other as well as time to study, meditate, practice my yoga as well as martial arts, time with family and friends.

I am always seeking -- which merely means I am always trying to learn new things, meet new people and be open to new experiences. My life is as plain and unencumbered as I can make it -- I am a minimalist at heart (in spite of all my shoes!) -- because it helps me not to get stuck in any one particular way of thinking. Venues like this help too! :)

My life is my journey, Dearheart. If you leave life to seek, you're really missing the point. (well, in my opinion that is) :)
