I'm not for illegal immigration but i still believe that Bush should be more fair when letting people in, on September 11 the terrorists came through Canada, and I also don't like the way the government takes so long to get papers done for you, I've been living in america for 8 years now and i don't have my papers yet, i live on visa.

I'm for legal immigration. My pastor lived a very poor part of Mexico for a year, ministering to the people there. He said they lived in one room huts with dirt floors. There is no electricity or plumbing. Everyone bathed in the muddy river that had cows standing around in it. One of the things he did while there was to help build outhouses. He said the people there think those of us here who just live in a modest frame house live like kings. I asked him why the Mexican people all seemed to come over illegally instead of going through the paperwork and becoming US citizens. He told me that Mexico's government is so corrupt that the people have to come up with huge bribes to get the paperwork. Most of them can't come up with the kind of money they need in their entire lifetime. I realize that on one hand, that's the Mexican governments problem. They should police themselves. But if practically everyone is corrupt it isn't that easy to do. I wish our country could come up with a way for the Mexican people to legally become citizens or get their green cards (whichever they prefer) without having to deal with their own government. I know there are a lot of people on here that think they just want to overtake our country, but I don't think everyone realizes how some of these people have to live. Even I can't totally imagine because I've never had to experience that kind of poverty and you can read a lot and look at a lot of photos, but it's not the same as having to experience it all of your life with no end in sight. I also hear from people on here that they will take all our jobs away from us. An immigrant worker who is happy to take a minimum wage job isn't our problem. Our problem is our own companies farming out their work overseas to save a dollar. They're taking away our jobs and giving them, not to immigrants, but to people in other countries.

I think it's too easy to get into the country legally as well. We should tighten up our country.
How does it rate? I think immigration and the destruction of my society is number one priority. I feel for the Iraqis, but they're 10 thousand miles away. Paco and his 20 kids is 2 doors down.
And for the record, the latest polls showed 80% of Americans were against amnesty and/or a guest worker program. 65% of Americans supported a wall on the border. (From CNN)

I think we should have a time out, possibly about 10 years and then start letting a few come in after that, the last 20 years we have been flooded with new folks and we need time to blend them in to become Americans. How does it rate as a issue, I think its huge and I will not vote for anyone who isn't for getting it under control and building a fence on the borders.

I think it would depend on what happens to those already here. It is a matter of cumulative numbers. Our schools are already failing under the burden of too many poor immigrants, who, even if they paid all taxes wouldn't pay much towards their cost in education and health care, etc. To the extent they are screened but stay, immigration going forward has to be more restricted to try to absorb the mass. To the extent they leave, we have more room to let in more.
I don't want immigration at the expense of my children's education.

It should be made more difficult to get in to the country - immigration is the #2 issue in the country - war on terror is #1.

You're RIGHT!!!! MOST Americans are totally AGAINST any form of amnesty for illegals!!!
I have no problem with people who immigrate here LEGALLY!!!
HOWEVER,there needs to be a LIMIT on how many are allowed here from each country!!! AND, they should have some sort of skill, to where they can take care of themselves AND their family without public assistance!!!!

I'm not anti-immigration; by all means, if someone feels that they want to come to the U.S. for better opportunity, then go right ahead.
However, I'm all for LEGAL immigration. That may mean waiting months or even years for naturalization.

I’m pro immigration, and the process should be stream lined.
I’m Anti illegal immigration and the situation needs to be fixed.
I’m pro border security, tied to but not the same issue as illegal immigration.
I think border security is in the top 5 if not number one of my concerns for this country.
Illegal immigration is in the top 50% of my concerns. It should be fixed but as long as security is in place and we know who is here I’m not too worried about it.
Stream lining the immigration process is something we should fix but it probably wouldn’t play any role in who I vote for.
