It is our right to be able to live comfortably without feeling guilty. Working is not the be all and end all, it is our conditioning that makes us belief we are only a worthwhile person when we have a job.

There are various reasons why people dont/wont or cant work. You are feeling bad about something you have no control over. If you are feeling bad its because you want to work but circumstances prevent that from happening. You will never bankrupt social security.....the Government has more money than they know what to do with....just look at how much a politician gets paid.....all through our taxes. They are working for us and we are paying them too much, but we dont have a say in that....they choose their own pay rates, not the people who are paying them. You have no need to feel bad....the government will screw you at every opportunity. You have a valid reason why you cant work....so be kind to yourself, accept the situation you are in. It may not be a permanent thing anyway....who knows how you are going to feel in 12 months time. You need this time to do whatever it is that will get you better. I hate the word crazy....you are not crazy, you have an illness and whether it be a permanent psychiatric illness, you havent said., or whether it be a mental illness, both illnesses dont mean you will be this way forever. If it is a psychiatric illness, then there are new drugs coming on the market all the time...so much research is being done in mental health and psychiatric health. In 12 months you may be a totally different person and I personally think the government owe you to get better, and if that means allowing you an income to see that happen, then its a good thing. Your health is your most important concern....treat yourself well.

People who are on disabled and on SSI are not going to bankrupt Social Security. That job is for the richest 10% of all Americans who get big tax cuts, and the oil companies. Disabled people have to pay rent, buy food, and that kind of frivolous stuff. And you pay taxes on things like that, so don't worry, if your disabled you are at least paying something back into the system!!!

I'm in the same boat. I paid taxes into the Social Security system and I am receiving my reward.

Don't believe everything the right-wing politicians tell you or say in this forum.

Not at all. You should not feel bad. Being disabled is nothing to be ashamed of. I have a neighbor who is disabled, and she can not hold down a job, because of her condition. I do not feel bad for her, because God has a plan for every one.
