My 18 month old daughter just shoved a short, cooked noodle up her nose and before I could get it out, she sniffed it in. What do I do now?????

OK, thanks to the people who actually knew a little bit about this kind of situation. As embarrassed as I was, I called her pedi who kind of giggled when I apologized and told her I had made her nite - the answering service's page said "child sniffed noodle," LMAO! Doc said nothing to worry about, it would probably dissolve on its own, and even if it didn't, a noodle wouldn't be enough to choke her. She said even if she didn't swallow it, the worst that would happen would be that she got a little nasal congestion while her body tried to rid itself of it. So, thank you maternal instincts for steering me right :) I knew I didn't need the ER! And thanks again to those for whom common sense prevailed!

DON'T rush off to the emergency room....I know from experience that you'll spend a bunch of time there, as well as a bunch of money, only to have the doctor hand you some rubber gloves and a tongue depressor, and have you look for it when she goes #2.

In particular, if it was cooked, I doubt it will cause any problems. Just watch her, to be sure she's not choking, but otherwise, it'll come out in her diaper, or in her snot. The human body is an amazing thing, really!

P.S.
Don't be embarassed! Kids snort and swallow all kinds of things, all the time! A cooked noodle is a very minor problem (actually, I think there's an America's Funniest Home Video about this very thing).

OK well my sister was about 1 and a half when she stuck corn up her nose. So we could all see it, but we were not able to get it out. She started sneezing, and sneezing. Then i THOUGHT i saw somthing fly out. So i was like, mom, dad, the piece came out. I dont know if it did or not.....but if your child is in pain, discomfert, or any other symptoms, take her to a ear nose and throat doctor. He/she will tell you what will need to be done. Actually, dont take her, call them. Its really fast and easy. If not...call any sort of doctor that knows that area well. Check it out online, or what ever else you need to do to prevent your little girl getting hurt. Good luck, and keep us posted. I have my fingers crossed, and dont worry, it WILL work out fine.

Either you can take her to the emergency room or if you trust yourself you can try to remove it yourself using a pair of tweezers. That is all they are going to do at the hospital. Also you do not need to wait and let it come out by itself because it might not and honestly she will start to stink. When I was about her age I stuffed a piece of cotton or something like that up my nose and my mother started to notice a smell on me she gave me several baths each day trying to get rid of the smell but nothing worked. No one wanted to be around me. She took me to the doctors and the doctor looked up my nose and then he removed the cotton and told my mom that it was causing the odor. So it needs to be removed as soon as possible.

I think you should go to the doctor..might have to go to an after hours facility depending on where you are..or the ER....they can get it out. Don't panic, but you need to have it removed...if you try to do it, you could shove it up farther. And no worries, you will not be the first person at the ER with a toddler who shoved something up there nose...guaranteed.

It should be OK. If she is not choking, then it went down the right pipe. Just entered through the wrong place. That's all.

But I could be wrong. This just seems logical.

She will be fine. She probably already swollowed it because your nose is connected to your throat. And if she didnt swollow it yet she will or she will sneeze it out. Nothing to worry about.

Happy to know she is ok. Maybe you should check with a doctor for a list of foods which are permissble for snuffing.

Call the emergency room or immediate care clinic and ask them.

You asked for it darling... get it yourself by sucking up her nose immediately.

Other wise, it may be already digested by her nose after all this time has passed.

Call 911 and ask them?

Make her laugh! Quick!
