during the school year i have school, sports, church, and a lot of homework because i'm in advanced classes. this means i usually get only 5-6 hours of sleep each night. i'm always exhausted. even days when i do manage to get 8-10 hours [like on weekends] i am just as exhausted when i wake up. what can i do to wake up feeling refreshed? and how much sleep do i really need?

try catching some zs on the bus (or in the car, if your parents drive you around between commitments). Naps always help, at least a little. Otherwise, you might knock off one or two of those activities. Jeez, kiddo, you're only a kid oncet. Have some fun fer once.

If you REALLY have to keep doing all those things, (I hate to recommend this, but...) try drinking something with lots o' caffiene, like a Coke or Dr. Pepper or a really dark coffee. This is usually a bad idea because of all the sugar, though (you'll crash, later). You also might try getting a better diet, with lots of fresh fruits and veggies and non-processed stuff with lots of carbs (like banana shakes and pasta and stuff).

PS, the scientists say, for a kid, that 10 hours is usually optimal. Adults usually need at LEAST 8 hours.

You need to proiritize your life. Cut out some things. There are only 24 hours in the day and you can't do everything. You need sleep or everything is going to start suffering.
