well i have 4 Chihuahua's. before i got my 1st (jamoka) i got this book "Chihuahua's for dummies" and that helped me alot!
i feed my dogs puppy chow.jamoka was very shy so he did what ever i told him. but when he was a year old i took him to pet smart just to learn some new things. Jamoka is very much a lap dog. people talk about dogs with clothes but your chi is going to need them! when ever your cold ,your chi is cold! please get that book it's on line for like 8 bucks. it will really help you and you can use it threw out there life i still use it .I feel chi's are just like any other dog just smaller.
Grooming....
if you have a short hair chi your good that's no work but a bath here and there. (i have 2 long haired and 2 short haired)
if you got a long haired chi you NEED to brush them just like any other dog. you need to keep there butts shaved because it gets petty messy back there, I'm not say shave all the hair off but just around the butt hole. brushing them will keep them looking very cute go to pet smart and it's like 30 bucks for nails ,bath ,trim. i take mine every 3 months. with in that 3 months you need to keep brushing.

Chi's do best with reward based training. I would recommend a puppy training class. As with all small dogs they tend to get overwhelmed and scared easily if not socialized well from the beginning. Chi's are very outgoing little dogs and should be encouraged to nicely interact with others. Try to find the highest quality of dog food you can afford. Some of the holistic and natural foods are : Wysong, Canidae, Blue Buffalo, Innova and Wellness. If you need food that can be bought at your local pet supply store, Petsmart carries Blue Buffalo, you may also like Royal Canin...they have a formula specific to Chihuahua's. Check out this link to talk to other owners of Chi's that are active in the breed and show community: http://www.chihuahuaclubofamerica.com/ . They will have the contact info to people in your area. All dogs enjoy having the chance to learn and enjoy activities. What activity will depend or your little pumpkin. Some 'sports' to look into are Agility and Flyball.

Hello, if it is a puppy start with puppy food especially for small breeds for the first year. Keep it on a schedule don't keep food and water down to consume at will. Let it eat and drink 3 times a day and then take it outside to do it's business. If not outside then invest in some puppy pads for using the bathroom. Chihuahuas are just like any other dog just a smaller version. Good luck:)

i have a chihuahua cool dogs i feed it pedigree minni kibbles (small breed) my dog barks allot at people it doesn't know however my dog doesn't bite and chihuahuas are usually very aggressive dogs meaning they tend to bite u if u bother it but mine doesn't as far as training goes my dad just put out these sheets i don't know what they are but they are absorbent and the dog learned by itself to pee and poop on them so u can try something like that and my dog has a little house where it always sleeps we made him sleep in this since he was small so he can get used to it so if u have a little house for him do that hope that helped a little. and OH YEAH CHIHUAHUAS ARE A ONE PERSON DOG he likes my dad the best at listen to him the most

have a Chihuahua, she is about nine months old. She is very picky with what she eats. I buy her food especially made for chihuahuas. She is also very protective of me, even though she only weighs five pounds. She barks like crazy if someone she doesn't know comes near me. She is also very love able, she follows me everywhere and sleeps right next to me every night. They are very hard to train. It took about two months to potty train her. She is great though.

the key with any animal and i mean ANY animal is repitition and patience. Use key phrases for everyday tasks and it will pick up on that phrase and know what you mean. I use a series of simple commands for my dogs. Do you want to go outside/lets go outside, go get in your beds, let's go to bed. They also know that "go out" means to leave the current room they are in. use your phrase of choice and then reward them once they respond with the appropriate action. I have a Chih/ Rat Terrier and then a 4 lb Chih. They dont require that much special care, it is all in how you treat them. Both girls are very loving and sweet. The Chih/RT will love on anyone including strangers. But the Chih will growl and bark at strangers. She does bit but she is so small that she cant do much harm. If yours is a baby, then for her first year she will be nice to strangers but after that, she will really know who her "family" is and she will bark at others. This guideline is for most Chihs, not all of them. There are exceptions to every rule especially with animals. My girls eat whatever we happent get, usually purina puppy chow or another brand of small bits food.

Next time you might want to consider researching your animals prior to their arrival. Or else next time you might get a pet crocodile, and the realize oh they eat people!

I HAVE 2 CHIHUAHUAS, THEY ARE A ONE PERSON DOG, THAT MEANS THEY ONLY GET ATTAVCHED TO ONE PERSON, YOU HAVE TO SHOW THEM ALOT OF LOVE, AND PAY 100 PERCENT TO THEM . THEY ARE VERY PICKY EATERS, MINE ONLY EAT WHAT THEY WANT TOO. SHREDDED CHICKEN OR SHREDED BEEF. SO YOU HAVE TO EXPERIMENT UNTIL YOU FIND WHAT THEY LIKE.
