If the fleas are in the house-they will not die off because of the cold. They will die when their life cycle is over. Keep vacuuming often. Use the carpet powder that kills insects.

Oh dear!

Unfortunately, those in your house will not die. And those outside will probably only go dormant.

I've never tried foggers: The visions I have of the residue getting on stuff that my pets and I use gives me the willies. But there is a way to get rid of fleas. Unfortunately, it does take a huge ammount of effort. But it will be worth it.

First, you will want to obtain a powder that will kill fleas and flea eggs. Arm and Hammer puts out a good one, or you can used borax or powdered laundry detergent. Close your pets in a flea-free room: Usually a bathroom is good, if it doesn't have carpet.

Sprinkle the powder on all your carpet and on the furniture, then wait about 20 minutes. Then vacuum. Keep vacuuming every day for at least 2 weeks: That's when any viable flea eggs left will hatch. Get your lawn and under your house treated too, in case fleas are hiding there. And from the description of your flea problem, they might be.

Good luck!

Yeah, the fleas will die in the cold. The eggs won't though, and come warm weather next year, you will eaten alive. Worse than this year. You need to bomb again. Flea eggs are almost indistructable and new babies are constantly hatching into your previously clear house.
You also need to treat all your pets as well. Get them all on Frontline or Advantage. They will prevent new infestation, but you still need to get rid of all the fleas currently living in your space.
Vaccum. Twice a week for 2 weeks. That has proven to be the most effective method for me. Bomb then vaccum if you want.
You also need to treat your yard. You and your pets can "track" them in just like mud on clothes and fur. Bummer if you just treated, now you've been infested again. There are sprays at pet and hardware stores. Follow package directions to the letter!! That's very important. Pay close attention to the "re-treat" directions. (on the house bombs too) Like I said, you gotta treat everything a few times to kill all the new babies.

Fleas will die outside when weather changes, but inside is another story. Call an exterminator and get your animal in for a flea dip. My Mom's dog had fleas so bad that they had to shave all his hair off, bath him everyday, and rub some kind of medicine on him. The whole house, including the crawl, had to be bomb. It was quite a mess.

You may need to actually rip the carpets out and start over. Flea bombs are nice, but sometimes an infestation is worst than even they can handle. The fleas are definitely in the carpets and most likely the furniture. Before I did anything more I'd contact a professional exterminator. They will come out and seal your home completely and use a very potent gas to kill them all....there shall be no escape for them. It is a bit costly, and you have to find a place to stay for a day or two.

The fleas will die down outside, but they will continue to live inside where it is warm. Fog or spray your whole house, and then vacum everything, all carpets, rugs, under couch cushions. Use the veterinary brand sprays, sometimes the stuff you can get over the counter isn't that effective. Also, of course, treat your pets. Again, use a treatment prescribed by a veternarian.

I found it very easy to get rid of fleas in the house! Just spray the carpet with fly spray (back out of the room with the can and close the door for a short while) With a dog and a cat we once got a very bad infestation in the carpet and this totally fixed it. The dog and cat didn't seem to suffer from the latent fumes.

Flea bombs don't work that well.. It can't get under furniture . You need a good spray and spray every inch of flooring under beds and all furniture. Your vets.carry the most effective type. Also put Frontline plus on all your pets. When you vacuum you vacuum up fleas that will live inside your vacuum bag and get back out into your carpet.Sprinkle flea powder on the floor and vacuum it up so you get abit inside the vacuum bag also.

THE best way to rid fleas is a product called diatomaceous earth, and another product called KNOCKOUT ES spray. Diatomaceous earth is a powder (looks just like flour) that kills ANY and EVERY insect on your carpet, or in your house but is completely harmless to pets and humans. This powder dehydrates insects and literally shreads them apart from the inside out. The KNOCKOUT extra strength spray is applied to your home carpet, floor, upholstery, etc. This stuff is a little expensive but look it up and the reviews are mind boggling at how excellent this stuff really is! Every user gives it 5 stars.
