It depends on the person. If you want to focus more on academic studies rather than be distracted in class and have to wait for help and at the same time have more time to do what you are interested in, homeschooling is the way to go. You also don't have to be surrounded by potential social nonsense all day long.

If you like meeting different people all the time, homeschooling is also the better choice. My kids have met more people the past 3 years of homeschooling than they would have had they been in school with the same kids in the same class year after year.

Neither is intrinsically better - they are simply different options available to all parents in the US, just as private schools are.

If the parents are not going to take responsibility for what their children are learning and ensure that learning is occuring, then public school or private school is better. If the parents (yes, both, if both are in the home) are willing to dedicate the time and energy necessary to school their children, then homeschool is a great option.

On average, homeschoolers score higher on standardized tests. HOWEVER... test scores are not the only thing that matters. It's just as important for homeschool students to interact with other people, both same-age peers and older/younger people. This can be accomplished in myriad ways - homeschool co-ops, field trips, sports teams, academic clubs, park days, music lessons... the list is pretty much endless.

The decision to homeschool must be based on a variety of factors and when those factors are weighed, if public school is a better fit for the family, then public school it is. If homeschool comes out on top, then homeschool. No two families homeschool for the same reasons Each has weighed the pros and cons of all the options and made a conscious decision to homeschool. On the other hand, many families send their children to public school without ever considering the options.

It depends on a lot of things. Homeschooled students meet other students all the time through school sports, homeschool co-op groups, and activities. If you are a parent wanting to homeschool your child, I would say that homeschooling is probably better then public school especially if you live in a large city. If you are a student, then I would wonder about your motives. If you think it will be easier, it will not. You will need to be able to work independently. You will not always have a teacher there to answer your questions. You will have to find the answers for yourself. If this sounds like an environment that you would do well in, then I suggest you get some books from the library and read about it.

I teach at a public school, and have tutored many dear, well-loved home-schoolers. I can honestly say it depends on several things. 1.) Is the quality of your education going to stay the same or improve if you are homeschooled? If there are no support systems for you to learn at the same or a more enriched pace, then academically speaking, you should not homeschool. If there is someone or something (virtual schooling, local curriculum assitance, sattelite school, or a qualified person to teach you) that can give you all the attention you need and keep you up to state standards, then academically speaking, GO FOR IT.

The other issue schools teach is socialization. If you have a homeschool group in your town that shares your common values (many around here are faith based), and you can socialize with many peers your own age or your parents involve you in MANY extra curricular activities, then you're fine. You won't get that "home school speak" I've heard people refer to. (Before you get mad, it's just referring to the kids who have NOT had a lot of social interaction with ANYONE and seem almost anachronistic--they suffer because they eventually WANT to fit in, and don't know how.)

Last but not least, DO NOT play the "home-school-card" because you think it's easier. If it's done right, it should be an opportunity for you to be even MORE challenged.

Ok, since this is the homeschool section, it's a safe bet to say that most people will say homeschooling is best.
I homeschool and that's what I say.
However, there is a certain amount of grumpy, uninformed, rude people out there that like to hang out on the HS forum and bash homeschoolers, so I expect to hear from some of them on that.
Most people that do stuff like that are just afraid of anything outside the norm, and a lot of times that fear translates to hostility and anger. Honestly if some of those people would put as much energy in to actually learning about homeschooling instead of bashing us over the head with generalities, misconceptions, rudeness and prejudices, things may just change a bit.
If you were to go to the teacher section, you could ask the same question and get an entirely different set of answers
So take your pick. homeschool or public school or private school: it completely depends of what you want. I can't tell you what would work best for you. all I can do I share my experience and continue to point out misinformation and prejudices when I see them.

I think it depends on the person as well as the school. I homeschool my 10 year old niece because she was having a lot of problems in school due a tragedy in our immediate family and the principal as well as the teachers were major jerks with no compassion. I personally think homeschooling offers more advantages. I get to teach her at her own pace, and personalize her lessons around what she is interested in. She also feels comfortable asking me for help when she needs it. And as for her social skills, we are involved in a homeschool group, where she gets to go on field trips and have time to get to know other homeschoolers. I also LOVE getting to choose where I take her on field trips. So there is an up side to homeschooling.

I say it really depends on the person and situation.

First of all jsut because they are in homeshcooling doesn't mean they have no social skills..thats just a stero-type.

I'm "homeschooled" but I do school via internet..its ofically a public school.

If the student is very dedicated and can get better educational programs by homeschool(which is why i'm in it) then its better for homeschool, but if their public school is a good one, its just as good.

HOME SCHOOL! I've been home schooled my entire 14 years of life, and I LOVE it.my parents understood that public schools are full of drugs, sex, and other horrible things that they didn't want me to be in the midst of.I should probably be in high school if I was in public school, and the closest high school is nicknamed Maternity High,so obviously it is not the best place to go to.I also like not having to get up before 8,no home work, shorter school days, and WAY more time to hang out with my friends.I also don't have any socialization problems.I have friends both adult and my age,and I don't have to be with my best friend every day,and I don't want 500 friends either.so home schooling is the best way to school.I hope that answers your question.

That's going to depend on the home and the public school.

It can be, depending on what is being taught. I for one say so, and while I was in a summer private school thing I had to sit in class, listening to my two deskmates fight it out with words. I didn't feel that I was learning much for all the trouble of going there. But it was a great way to meet other kids.
