They use satellite phones. You will be charges $$$$$. Wait until you dock & email someone (much cheaper). Some places, you can email for like $1 per minute or call someone for like $10 min. If you have a webcam on you laptop (& mic), that will be MUCH cheaper.

Yes every ship has a phone number and all the people need is your room number or full name. The cost for any ship to use the satillites that provide the calls are $16 per minute no matter if you call or they call. I would suggest using email unless it is an emergency. Rate can vary depending on the cruise line, but I would buget $16 per minute.

You can make and receive calls in your room while on a cruise. It is usually about $6.00 per min. I usually get a calling card before I leave and use it on land when the ship is in port. Make sure you get the calling card before you leave because they are very expensive in the ports of call.

Everyone is right on track. Cell phones work in port and very close to shore. Offshore and at sea is satellite only. Very expensive. Usually cruise ships are in often enought that you can wait. If not, I am sure the cost is the least of your concerns at that point.

You can make and receive calls at sea but it is expensive. I was on a Royal Carribean trip a couple months ago and I was charged $8.00 per minute for a ship to shore call. It's cheaper to use your cell phone when you arrive at a port.

I cruised in June on a Royal Carribean Cruise line and you can now use your cel phone to send and receive phone calls, but it is costly.

Yes, you can, but it's usually expensive. Check with the cruiseline's website & it should give you the exact way to make/receive ship to shore or shore to ship calls - there will be a special phone number.

Yes, but weather your out at sea or tied up in port (dock) A phone call from any ship phone is very expensive.
Most ships have cabin phone, but be sure you read the fine print before you dial any call.

I'm sure their are phones on the ship, even though I've never been on one myself. It'd be by satelitte though, not phone lines (of course). Your cell phone probably wouldn't work, as you'd travel too far away from any towers.

From a cell, no. You can use it when you dock. They have special phones on the ship, but they are very expensive.
