Yes kids are everywhere down there during Mardi Gras. The younger ones are usually inside before it's too late tho.

In the warehouse district to the west of the French Quarter, there are three extremely good museums- 1 kids science museum, 1 WWII museum extension of the Smithsonian, and a civil war museum. All for $5 to $20 per person.
Now at the riverside south of the French Quarter, is the Aquarium of the Americas with an IMAX theatre. Figure about $30 per person.
Across from Wolfgang Puck's place is an absolutely FABULOUS pizzaria cafe that you can eat and watch parades/people without too much trouble, just be sure to tie a tether on them so they don't get lost in the crowds.
Now over in Jackson Square, Central Bourbon Street, is a costume and mardi gras museum that is a lot of fun.
The big problem with kids will be keeping track of them in crowds. Curfew is 11pm unless it's Mardi Gras time when the Police are too busy unless they're with parents. Other than that, there are daycare facilities throughout NAWLINs. If you stay at the W hotel (Posh!), ask the concierge what options there are.
But it is New Orleans...Let the good times roll!

on any night.. the curfew for kids under 18 is 11:30 or 12:00.
dont think there is a curfew during mardi gras.. just after the parades really.
you can make mardi gras for kids .. or for uself.. NOT ALL of mardi gras is getting drunk and showin s h i t. thats usually just in the French Quarter which is never too much of a fun places for kids anywayz .. infants - 17years.
THERE ARE many parades for children to go to.. Family Parades. There are even some night parades for families and their younger children. now.. anyone under the age of 18 can go to any parade they please.. at whatever time... they just cant be cought drinkin.
dunno if that answered ur question

You can take the kids for Mardi Gras but go with a group of people who know the area. all of my kids love it just be careful. don't worry about curfew you will go home early you and the kids will be exhausted. have fun and throw me something mister. also you can ride in a parade if you want doesn't cost that much and that is a blast..

If you are not in the French Quarter, Mardi Gras is loved by children. Metaire and St Charles are fine to take kids.

there are no rules on mardi Gras day. are you going for your kids to have fun or do you want to get wild and drunk? Keep them above ground so they can be seen by the throwers. Some people make ladders for the little kids. You have to be carefull. If your kids are used to seeing u act a fool then bring 'em. If not bring a babysitter and toys. its like a party for the entire city.

There are family parades during Mardi Gras. Mardi Gras is not just one big drunken orgy. There are (or used to be) activities for the entire family. Those who want the drunken orgy-type behavior go to Bourbon Street at night.

if you have any common sense, you would know 2 things. 1. new orleans isnt the greatest place to be taking kids right now and 2. mardi gras is not for children. leave the kids back at home with a trusted adult and enjoy yourself. too many weird things can happen in that sort of environment. dont do anything stupid with your kids or take away what little innocence they have left these days.

If your talking about kids under 18 even 21. And if your talking about New Orleans. Forget it. It is not a place for kids after dark.
The parades during the day for most part are OK, but ask your self? Have you ever seen a child at night in New Orleans, in photos , TV any thing.
Now in Rio, it is a different story, Mardi Gran is for everyone, but there life style is much different.
