I don't think people are trying to be rude - unless they say it in a condescending tone.

Yes, they are trying to be rude, But No at the same time becuase they do really want to change the subject especially if the subject is something they do not want to talk about.

What do you say when you want to make a quick transition to a different subject? I usually hear the person say, "Anyway, blah, blah...etc" when both of us have nothing more to say on the current topic and then we just move on. You sound like you're insulted about it and maybe you need to ask yourself why. If you are hearing it too often when talking to someone, maybe you don't realize you are talking too much or you've caught them at a time when they're in a hurry.

This is an indication that they are uncomfortable with the subject and would like to talk about something else. Most people aren't confrontational and would rather change the subject than get into an argument.

No it should be anyway without the s but it is a way of changing subjects. If you want to stay on the current subject politely tell them you need to finish your thoughts on the current subject.

People say "Anyways or Anyway" to change the subject they are not comfortable talking about. Its called using your Manners, Something the younger generation are growing up not using today

did you ever think that YOU might be the person being rude for wanting to continue in a conversation that makes the other peson uncomfortable??? this MIGHT be why they want to change the subject. or maybe they're just bored with the conversation and don't know how else to go from one topic to another???
Do you have any other suggestions or words that can be used instead of "Anyways?" If so, please enlighten me.
