My 4 month old puppy has been developing something very shocking to me. He is a chocolate lab with a beautiful dark brown coat, but he has one spot in his tail that is beginning to turn gray. We were going to breed him and this may look bad when it comes to appearance. Why is this happening? Any incite on why this what would have spurred this?

No reason to worry yet, as your puppy will go through several coat changes before he is old enough to breed..You won't know his true color until he is at least 2 years old..

UMM, if you don't know why that would happen, I suggest that you do some research and educate yourself a little about breeding and the breed before you start breeding. I'm not trying to be a smart a**. Really I'm not. I would just like to see more educated and responsible breeders out there. There are too many people breeding who don't know jack about what they are doing. Please give that some thought before you start breeding. By the way, it's fairly normal for a dogs to have coat color changes around that age. Lot's of labs have that little grey or white tip at the end of the tail.

Why is everyone going to breed their Lab. You are all helping the breed go right down the crapper!!! There are too many Labs!!!

He doesn't sound like he was bought as a show quality dog, so he should not be bred!!!!!
You better make sure you learn a lot about health clearances first!!!!! Maybe you weren't planning on doing those..........

he might have got it slammed into a door. My friends dog got his tail caught and that is what happened. But your right, if you are planning on breeding, your dog will be looked down upon with this spot. And please if your dog is not perfect, I would have to give my opinion not to breed. I am an animal rescuer. I have four dogs, a Guinea pig, a parrot, three cats, and a turtle that were all found at the pound. Minutes form death.

dogs are like humans, as they grow older they get gray hair and also dogs hair colour does change.. like humans eye colours when there born when your born its usually blue then it gets brown or black or stays the same so don't worry your dogs perfectly fine... and plus its fur colour doesnt mater when it comes to breeding female or male dogs always finds its mate by the smell of its urine or its type but not its fur colour
