Most atheists I know are kind, moral people. Of course, they shouldn't give up on acts of goodness. A charitable heart is not necessarily dependent upon religion.

When an atheist does charitable things i find that it is more meaningful than when a religious person does it for religious reasons. The atheist has no threat of punishment for not doing such a thing, nor does he have the promise of a reward. Not even because they feel it's something they are supposed to do. It's simply done to help their fellow man. That's real charity.

Not all atheists are selfish mean people. Why should they stop charities and good work?

Atheists are good because it feels really good to be good to someone else. Some Christians do good because they are scared that they will be punished it they don't. Will they get into Heaven based on that motivation?

Hey, I might not agree with atheists, all the time, but that doesn't mean that there are not good atheists. God bless the atheist who does good things from a good conscience.

I'm an atheist. My favorite charity is UNICEF. I also volunteer as an ESL teacher in my community. Why should I give either up?

Forget about christians, we need to look at our own motivations and see if we're building the self concept or reducing it. That's the key for all of us -- do we do good for compassion or for our self (for god and eternal life/reward, for the concept of ourselves as good or humble or compassionate, for the praise and recognition of others, etc. -- all involve the self).

Some unbelievers do believe in doing good for goodness sake. Now if they would just mix in a little faith you might have something there! I say the unbeliever that sort of tried to do good is going to be less punished than the unbeliever that didnt. But realize you do no good to anybody if you are not sharing the Gospel.

I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. -John 5:15

Psa 14:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

2john:
1:9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.
1:10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:

If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers; Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth; Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him: But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people. And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; because he hath sought to thrust thee away from the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
(Deu 13:6-10 KJV)

This is the "Christian" mindset for the Non-Christian. We are unable to do anything good...

The Christians have done things that would shock my granny...
