There is some ‘Laziness’ involved I suppose… but this is far from the real reason behind… ‘Xmas’!!
Christmas = “CHRIST—CELIBRATION”!!
Though arguably ‘NOT’ the day of Jesus Birth… (25th December) … It is the day, world wide: that Christians ‘Celebrate’ the birth of their Lord & Saviour!!
Take 'Christ' away from 'Christmas'... and your left with just what satan wants... ‘Xmas’!!
No Christ… Just Celebration!!
‘Christmas’ lost its ‘Real’ meaning to the world many, many, moons ago: and is now for most people either nothing at all: a time to feel lost & alone: bitter & resentful: tired & frustrated: depressed/suicidal … for them to spend to much and go further into debt: eat too much: or drink to much, etc, etc, etc!!
Christ Jesus does not even get a second thought!!
'CHRIST' ...Love ... Peace... Joy... & HOPE... need bringing back into Christmas!! GOD BLESS ALL.
Shalom!!

You want to know how to get Christ back in Christmas, that's the real question isn't it?
Then the answer is simple. Christians everywhere should get together and decide that current tradition of gift giving at christmas should be re-thought. Either take the gift giving, and move it to Easter or some such holiday, or better yet in my humble opinion, spread it out through out the year. Instead of waiting until Christmas to give someone gifts, surprise them and give the a gift at anytime of year. Spread the joy.
The main goal of this to seperate the Christian holiday from the marketing frenzy of the same name. Without the influx of shoppers, marketers will soon lose interest in this religious holiday,so it can go back to being religious.
So instead of shopping, go to church, have a big turkey/ham supper with your family, and just enjoy the yuletide spirit.

25th December isnt 'christs birthday'...according to scholars, the time of the supposed christs birth was in the spring...the reason why its is celebrated on the 25th is to tie in with the pagan winter solstice 21/22nd dec. Yes, thats right, Paganism was around a lonnnng time before chrisitanity. Personally I dont observe christmas or xmas, I send soltice cards, have a living tree as it is a pagan symbol of the solstice but Christmas has no meaning for me

My family prefers CHRISTmas, if you write Xmas you are X-ing out Christ, taking Christ out of it, and that's wrong. The whole holiday is suppose to be about His birth anyway, but its been way too commercialized as it is, so why leave Him out all together? We need to remember the reason we are celebrating, if He was never born, there would be no CHRISTmas.

Trivializing the name of this holiday is the least of it's problems. Seeing Christmas shows in July and August and then seeing Christmas advertising in stores beginning the latter part of September is a much bigger problem. Advertisers trying to convince us that the diamond bracelet is the only way to make our spouse happy and our kids won't love us without the newest ipod. If I were an Atheist and I wanted to destroy the spirit of this holiday, this is exactly what I would do.

I read somewhere its not a short way of writing it, but xmas was a reference to the cross.
Either way I love in order Halloween, Christmas and Birthdays.

Yes, I hate the word 'xmas' as it is totally empty. Even worse is that ridiculous Americanism 'Happy Holidays.' I take my holidays in Summer, not at Christmas. I know that it was invented to avoid offending people of other faiths, but Jews and Muslims celebrate their festivals without the need to rename them, so why should we?

The X in Xmas stands for the first letter of the Greek word for Christ (in Greek, pronounced 'xristos' - the x sounds like a hard k). It is short hand to a certain extent, but isn't a variable as I think you are assumning from your question. Hope that helps.

I absolutely hate Xmas. Its like they are using the sign of the cross, incorrectly, just being lazy rather than spell the word Christ. Gets on my wick.
