Does anyone know if scoopable kitty litter is bad for cats? My cat was coughing so I took her to the vet today thinking it was from hairballs--he said they don't cough from hairballs and suggested changing my litter--to a dust free one--but I use to use the regular not scoopable litter--anyone know if one is better than another for your cat?

He also said maybe it was asthma but said everything sounded fine in her lungs.

Personally, I find that the clumping litter raises less dust than the traditional granular clay. I switched several months ago and kitty and I are just loving it, especially since I have Asthma and am extremly allergic to dust.
There are a few dustless brands. Worlds Best, Precious Cat, and Yesterday's News are the ones I know of.

My cats have had scoopable litter all their lives. And it hasn't hurt them. However, hairballs to cause cats to cough in a rather strange way. That's not to say dust-free litter is bad though: In fact, it would probably be better for cat and human alike.

Between my family we have 8 cats (not living in the same house) and they are all ok with scoopable litter. It is easier to clean up and much less of a mess.

I use World's Best Cat Litter. It is made from corn, is scoopable and dustless. It is also environmentally friendly.

Try using Yesterday's News. The cat will be certain not to have any problems with it if it is asthma. It's made from recycled newpapers. Works pretty good too.
