When i was about 6 my grandad died & my family moved in to his house to look after my grandma who had ms. I was very close to my grandad & when we moved in I continued to see him & talk to him, he was there for me because i needed him. As i grew up i thought i had imagined all this until my dad asked me, when i was in my early 20's, if i remembered it because he often was present while i was having a conversation with my grandad & said i could never understand why he didnt see him too.
I agree with some of the other answers in that i think children are more open to this sort of experience, because of the way they see the world.

Ive had a few similar experiences like this when I was younger. At the time I didnt think nothing of it because I was young and just accepted things like that but looking back at it now I do get slightly freaked out. You could go for hypnosis and see what happens?

like others have said, children are more inept to overhear ghosts/spirits then adults. I wouldn't worry about it. kids are sensitive to the other side, that's why sometimes I will walk in on my three year old and she will be carrying on a conversation. I usually just pass on letting her carrying on. She once told me that she talks to grandpa. The older you get the less you notice things. Just chalk it up to one of those stories you can tell friends.

you were either half asleep/sleep walking or you have psychic abilities or mediumistic abilities that the majority of people do, Iv'e had loads of mediumistic experiences and psychic experiences, especially as a child, still can have them now, they can be enlightening but at other times can be frightening, I have read up a lot and have learned how to stop them at will.

Nothing to be concerned about. It's possible to experience a parallel universe or energies from people who have been in a room before.

Is it at all possible that this was a very vivid & apparently real dream. If you weren't scared honey, then that says it all. I really wouldn't worry! Do you have problems with sleep walking and a good imagination. PLEASE I'm NOT patronising. Sleep & dreams are truely facinating.

Children (and sometimes animals) do not have the inhibitions adults do, therefore they often see or hear things that may be thought of as paranormal without being scared.

You may have dreamed this. Or, you may have been sleep walking. Or...you may have been awake and there was indeed a dinner party...of spirits.
