That is actually the sign for the four directions. East, South,
West, and North. Some say it is from the Jewish Kabalah.
Solomon is supposed to have wrote the Grand Grimoire. The
book of magic. But the sign of the four directions has probably
been around much longer.

The pointing to 4 spots on the body is meant to boost activity and communication of 4 important magnetic sources within human body.
