my boyfriend and i have been together for a while and only some of my friends know and he hasn't told any of his. My friends said to be careful cause he might not want to claim you. Honestly i don't know what to do.

Sounds to me like he's not really ready for a commitment to you.. sounds like he's hiding the fact from his friends.. maybe he just wants you around as a steady thing while his friends and real girlfriend isn't around..

Well maybe you could just ask him why he doesn't want people to know. I can understand him not wanting people all in his business about his relationship with you if that's the case. but if that isn't the case then it does sound a lil fishy if he's all strict about the fact that he won't tell anybody about the two of you toghter.But TALK to him first before you start thinking negative about what it might mean. Communication is best!!!

How long is 'awhile'? He could be insecure about his friends for whatever reason. Have you asked him?
