I live in a 1200 sq foot apt. I need a loveable, semi quiet, lap dog. I need an easy one to train since I will be a first dog owner. It cannot be over 25 lbs at adulthood because of the apt. rules.

I really suggest you to stay away from puppies unless you want to spend a lot of time house training a puppy, older animals may already be house trained and you'll be able to gauge their personalities better as well. Go to the shelter and spend sometime with some of the animals and if you don't find an dog that you fall in love with the first time you visit, don't be discouraged, it may take a few trips to find the perfect animal for you. With a little luck you'll find a little mut/terrier that will be just perfect for you!

Italian Greyhounds are quiet. They arent too crazy about big crowds and such but they are good lap dogs and dont require much grooming at all. Of course the all famous Chihuahua would be a good pic aswell. Either one of those would be good.

First of all there are no quiet lap dogs they all mostly like to yipe at anything that moves, but with training this can be curbed. I would reccomend a poodle because they are very smart and if you are consistent take to training very well. hope this helps!!

If you plan on walking the dog twice a day or more, I suggest a rat terrier. Awesome first dogs, not nearly as yappy or agressive as a Jack Russell, and very smart... they will sometimes seem more human than you.

Check it out at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rat_Terrier

Good luck!

EDIT: Oh yeah, they are mousers on a level with cats!

Go to your local dog shelter or humane society. You can interact with the individual dogs and see how they fit with you and sometimes they are already trained. Plus, the adoption fee covers lots of things like neutering, vaccines, heartworm test, deworming, etc.
