get up at night when they are sleeping and go to the bathroom, so they don't wet the bed? My brother in law does with his kids. I do not! What are ur thoughts?

I buy my kids goodnights. Should I not buy them and get them up late before I go to bed? I think they don't get good sleep then. I do cut off drinking early too.

I used to wet the bed when up until I was 12 and it was the most embarrassing times of my life at home. It didn't matter if I didn't drink anything after 6 pm, I'd still pee the bed.
I wish my parents had done that for me, my dad used to go berserk if I wet the bed when sleeping in my parents bed (when I 5 or 6 and scared.)

wetting the bed actually has a lot to do with heredity by study. it was never in my family or occurred with me but when i was probably 2 or so my mom got me into going to the bathroom right before i went to bed and to drink all liquids at least an hour before i settled down so i wouldn't have to wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. i would say get them into a habit like the example above but not actually wake them, for that affects their sleep habits and it is really unnecessary if you take the correct precautions.

You didn't tell us an important piece of information - the age of your children. If your child is school aged then seriously consider getting a bedwetting alarm. When used correctly, they are an excellent way to get your children dry in a matter of weeks.
Children need to learn how to wake up by themselves to a full bladder. Don't restrict fluids, it is not going to help them learn this behavior. Many children wet the bed because they just haven't developed this ability. Your options are to wait - often many years - until they "grow out of it", which is bad advice, or to get a bedwetting alarm to help them learn over a few weeks how to permanently be dry on their own. Check out bedwetting alarms on the web. I recommend the Malem brand for my patients.

My mom did this with all 4 of us kids. She got us up just before she went to bed and we never were bed-wetters. A lot easier to take them to the bathroom than to have to keep changing the sheets.

uh- yeah I do- unless the child has a pull- up on or a diaper. I don't want them wetting the bed and then have to worry about cleaning the bed/mattress...
Do you let your child pee in their bed and then just deal with the mess later?

Letting them get a good nights sleep is more important to me.
And I'd never safely get my oldest who sleeps like a log out of his bunk bed anyway!

I did when my son was just starting to toilet-train. Not to sound mean, but I didn't want him to depend on a Good-night, or he'd never get the point. I only had to do that a week though, he was a fast learner, thank goodness.

I don't, but some kids do need that extra reminder to help them get the habit down. As long as they aren't like 10 years old I wouldn't worry.

I let my kids drink when they are thirsty. I just let them get up and go and put themselves back to bed.
I don't want my kids to be dehydrated. I also don't wake them up though. They were never accident prone

DONT LET THE CHILD DRINK ANYTHING AT LEAST 1HOUR BEFORE BED TIME THEN YOU WON'T HAVE TO GET THEM UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT TO USE THE BATHROOM
