I recall, but can't locate googling so far, an incident in India, I think, where a group of Muslims and a group of Hindus claimed the same tree as a sacred spot. There was a snake associated with this tree; its prescence proved the rightness of one side's claim.

Therefore, one group would scare the snake out of the tree, and the other group would pick up the snake and throw it back in the tree.

I'd appreciate more solid info from anyone who remembers this, too.

I am not sure this is a true story because Muslims don't claim trees as sacred spots. All kinds of trees and any other plant is just a part of nature that should be respected.

When I read this question, I thought it was a set-up for a brilliant crack on the Genesis story, but alas, it's a serious question. Bummer.
