Maybe that is every day language for her. Maybe she will expand you every day vocabulary this year.
Just because language is every day, does not mean that it needs to be simplistic or ignorant.

Not really, from what I understand vernacular is the only word for everyday language that isn't "street".

Well, if she used the word "vernacular" to explain that to you... I think she lied! Be prepared to look up words everyday!
Pretty funny joke though. Probably was lost on most of the kids unfortunately. Looks like you got it though!

Depends on the vocabulary of the person you're talking to. Since the word wasn't in yours, then as far as you were concerned, she wasn't speaking in everyday language.

She probably meant to say that shes not going to speak with words that you and your class mates may not understand. Another words she is not going to speak like she is reading from the dictionary.
