1. Try to breath normally. When you breath up-tight it increases your body's stress response, and makes your anxiety worse.

2. Realise your fear is totally normal, LOTS of people have this fear. Even many of the people you are talking to.

3. Cut yourself some slak, No one is watching you as closely as YOU. No one really notices all the "mistakes" that you are freaking out over. Try to remeber all the people you have seen give a speech, many of them were just as nervous as you, but they were just fine, as you will be too.

4. Remeber it's just a little talk. The worst thing that can happen is you get to nervous and decide to leave the room. Thats it. The world doesn't end. The sun still comes up tomorrow. No biggy. Your not a little kid anymore, there aren't gonna be "bullies on the play ground." So Honestly give yourself permission to "screw up" because nothing "BAD" will happen if you do, it is only a couple minutes of your life.

5. Try to think of it is a conversation. Even if the audience isn't talking they will give you signals that they are following. Give your speech like you are talking to one person at a time. And switch that person every few moments. Imagine you are sitting with them in your kitchen talking over coffee. ---Switch, new guest, keep talking, Switch, new guest, and so on.

6. Don't be intimidated by "high status" people. Even CEOs and Doctors werent always in positions of power. The were someone's little kid once upon a time. The had pajamas, and teddy bears, and bed times. Then acne, and curfews, and low paying fastfood jobs. So don't let them "scare" you. They are people too. Look past the suit.

Good luck.

There is no "magic bullet". The only way is to just go out there and practice. Having a good understanding of your material will help you out a lot, but also realize that the people in the audience are not there to see you fail. They are there to hear your talk and, thus, want you to succeed as much as you want to. Just relax and talk about the material.

You can practice by volunteering more to speak and/or give presentations (such as at work or school). Also, look into a local Toastmaster club, which provides the environment for public speaking practice.

It would be a good idea to take an Oral communications class of some sort. Some high schools provide courses like that, and some colleges or community centers might offer courses in Oral communications that help fears of public speaking.

You could look into joining your local "toastmasters" group in your community. Not only do they help you with your fear of public speaking they help you with your actuall oration.. how you talk .. that kind of thing.

I know its nerve wracking to speak in front of a group .. there are times I can do it well and then times that I clam right up.
Some ppl suggest.. pretned everyone is in their undies... but that takes way to much concentration and I loose my speech. I just try and pretend that they arent there.

When in college my speech professor said to imagine that everyone in the audience was naked. This gives you a superior feeling about yourself and makes you more comfortable. "Hey look at the fat guy on the third row" And if that doesn't help, just force yourself to do it, the more exposure you have, the more comfortable you will become.

Join Toastmasters, at their meetings you will learn that you are not the only one who fears speaking to a crowd. With these kindred spirits, you will learn to speak well and your fear will dissolve
