Some college libraries or student associations will have a used text book sale, where students can buy or sell used books... usually held within first month of school year, or thereabouts. I generally paid 50%.

Go to your professors, ask them whether the previous edition of the current text would be o.k., then look on ebay, or try to find someone who's taken the class before. I've already rented a textbook from a friend, and found several on ebay. It's quite a difference between $76 and $8.50.

try half.com by ebay, or even amazon usually has them cheaper than your school bookstore [even the used ones at times, depending on mark up]. Mine wanted 90 for a book i'm getting for 25 including shipping from half's site. i wish i'd known about it sooner. would've saved me alot of money this semester and those past. good luck!

http://www.campusi.com
This site searches many different book selling sites all around the world(amazon.com, ebay.com, half.com, etc.) and shows you the prices on all the different sites.
Be careful to only buy from respected sellers.
